We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer for our Commercial Analytics Engineering team, who will report to the Director / Team Lead of Commercial Analytics Engineering in an agile engineering team. The Analytics Engineers are responsible for building data products that enables the marketing business for Pfizer, owning deployments to production/release management, ensuring best in class processes and deliverables.

The team charter includes supporting Data Science and Insight & Strategy partner organizations across the entire data journey from Descriptive to Predictive with key responsibilities for data transformation, creation of consumption-ready data products to be used for visualization across the Commercial business.

The ideal candidate is a passionate and results-oriented data engineer with a proven track record of building data pipelines, data products, and tools to craft the future. A self-motived problem solver and team player, you will have software development or data engineering delivery experience in a previous position.

You are skilled in a broad set of ETL/Big Data processing techniques and development workflows with the ability to adapt and learn quickly to evolving platform architecture. You will assist in designing and implementing scalable, optimized, and secure data pipelines on large volume data sets that will enable actionable insights, strategy, and ML workloads across Pfizer's Commercial business.

Data Pipeline Development

  • Build data pipelines that will churn out reliable and high-quality analytics data products based on specifications from available data sources and can report progress to leadership while proactively mitigating day-to-day issues.

  • You are responsible for code deployments to production and are following agile best practices in the team working agreement.

Collaboration, Partnership, and Mentoring

  • Collaborate with engineers in the team on design, testing and implementation of efficient data systems, compute utilization and code tuning opportunities.

  • Contribute to building test automation tools and frameworks to test pipelines.

  • Partner with enterprise Digital Engineering team to identify or code APIs that need to be instrumented for data analytics and reporting and align with already established data pipelines.

Domain Knowledge and Standards

  • Analyze technical debt, legacy architectures, and work with other leads on optimizing design and re-platforming efforts.

  • Ramp up quickly in understanding data sources required for data products and the goals of Commercial Analytics in a Pharma business.

  • Work hand in hand with the Platform/Digital and DevOps team to follow platform requirements, tool enhancements, observability & monitoring, security/audit, and alerting on various data pipelines and jobs as needed for operation the Commercial Analytics Engineering organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree a plus) preferably in computer science, engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of backend software or data engineering experience with at least 2 years of experience as a data engineer on a development scrum team.

  • Recent Healthcare Life Sciences (pharma preferred) and ecosystem professional industry experience is preferred, commercial/marketing experience is a plus.

Technical Skillset

  • Strong understanding of Agile, SDLC, CI/CD, DevOps, GitOps, and ProdOps is required.

  • Deep expertise in SQL, Python, Scala or similar; other object-oriented programming languages.

  • Experience in data types/formats, data architecture, data modeling, data contracts as required for successful collaboration with data architects and visualization developers.

  • Deep hands-on experience in extensible data pipeline development and orchestration with tools like Apache Airflow, Step Functions, AutoSys or others.

  • Deep professional hands-on experience with data warehousing/RDBMS, ETL scripting tools, and IDEs.

  • Understanding of software engineering security best practices, demonstrate ability to follow requirements defined by the organization, and contribute to design/engineering for SecOps.

  • Mastery of master data management, rules-based data engines, and tools for multi-stage data correlation across large data sets

  • Must have experience managing deployment and release of code to production.

  • Thorough understanding of data visualization tools and requirements.

  • Experience working in agile setting or bring agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

  • Must have experience working in Jira and Confluence, and actively contribute to engineering team documentation and playbooks.

  • Familiarity with data privacy standards, pharma industry practices/FDA compliance is required.

  • Prioritizes excellence in data engineering by following F.A.I.R. principles and adheres to engineering and documentation standards set for by the organization.

Work Location Assignment: Flexible

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
