Night Shift Brewing Support/Bar Back, Beer Gardens in Boston, Massachusetts
Summary of position:
This is a hybrid role of bar back and door person for our Beer Garden locations. The primary responsibilities of a Bar Back is to ensure that the space is clear of trash and to assist the bar in cleaning and restocking plasticware, restocking packaged beer coolers and assist in flipping kegs when necessary. Other duties include maintenance throughout shifts of floors, furniture, restrooms and to perform other duties as assigned. The Beer Garden door staff is responsible for keeping guests and staff safe while also remaining welcoming calm always. One of the core duties is checking ID’s of guests entering the designated space as well as pre-screening to head off any issues that may arise once in the space.
This is a seasonal position which is scheduled to end in October. Anticipated start date is mid-to-late April. We’re always looking to add permanent staff to our team, and this is a great way to gain exposure for future positions!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Keeping the workspace behind the bar, the Owl's Nest space and bathrooms clean
Politely greet all guests and welcome them to the Owl's Nest
Respond promptly to requests from customers in a polite and professional manner
Ensure glasses, bar equipment and working areas are clean
Comply with all health, safety and hygiene standards and policies
Monitor inventory throughout shift
Restock bar glassware, kegs and retail cases and merchandise inventory as needed
Checks glass washers for proper chemical mixture and volume
Maintains soap and towels at hand sinks in all bars
Collect trash from all barrels throughout shift, as well as wiping down walls behind trash containers
Distributes clean bar towels, as well as, collects soiled ones and discards them in the appropriate place
Promptly and professionally handles guest issues and communicates problems and concerns to management
Thanks guest, offers a warm farewell, and invites them back upon departure
Attends, and satisfactorily completes all required training as assigned and required
Performs other duties as assigned

Keep a cool head in stressful situations
Help maintain order on busy days of business
Check each guest's ID and ensure that it is a valid form of identification
Ensure that guests are not acting inappropriately, and help to protect our property and equipment from damage
Assist in ensuring that all access points and fire exits remain clear always
Interact and communicate effectively with first responders in emergency situations
Assist managers in controlling the number of guests in the taproom always
Assist in de-escalating situations as needed
Assist in escorting guests out of the taproom as needed
Refuse entry to guests showing signs of intoxication or cause concern
Remain in constant contact with floor manager

Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
TIPS and/or Serve Safe certified
Crowd manager certified
Prior experience serving the public
Prior experience in fast paced hospitality
Skills:
Effective communication skills
Efficient decision making in occasionally stressful situations
Awareness of signs indicating intoxication of guests and other concerning factors
Ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision
A good memory to recall regular guests
