Senior Substation Project Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a senior level electrical engineer with substation design experience to work as a Substation Project Engineer in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Boston office located in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage relationships with local clients.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.

  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.

Required Education/Experience

  • Ability to function as a Senior Substation Project Engineer in the Boston area location of our Substation Business Unit.

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within one year.

  • Experience in 15kV through 345kV physical and electrical substation design, and IEEE/ANSI standards.

  • Experience in managing 5 or more people on a project team.

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Ten or more years experience in utility substation design.

  • Experience with and established positive relationships with local clients.

  • Experience in 345kV through 500 kV substation design.
