The opportunity

The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week.

This opportunity is in the research labs of the Ophthalmology department. The overall ophthalmology department is quite large, but the research arm consists of 6 labs who study development of different parts of the eye. Our lab studies eye movement disorders and development of the nerves and muscles that move the eye.

What you’ll do

The intern will assist with daily lab tasks including:

  • Genotyping mice

  • Helping with the mouse colony

  • Assisting with experiments.

  • The intern will be assigned to one lab member for day-to-day guidance. As the intern gains skills and confidence, they will have more independence in experiments.

  • This position is fully onsite

What you’ll get

The intern will learn basic laboratory skills, including:

  • Pipetting

  • Running gels

  • Immunohistochemistry

  • Mouse handling

  • Will learn to give a scientific presentation and how to interact with the diverse group of laboratory members.

Who you are

  • You are an undergraduate college student interested working in healthcare

  • Basic knowledge of biology and some exposure to laboratory techniques (lab coursework is ok).

  • Enthusiasm

  • Independence
