State of Massachusetts Occupational Therapist II in Boston, Massachusetts

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist. The selected candidate will be responsible for the evaluation and treatment of clients/patients with a variety of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial dysfunction. The Occupational Therapist will assist with program development, and student supervision. /_Hours:_/Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30PM, Weekends Off /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/// * Evaluates client needs for Occupational Therapy treatment through accepted Occupational Therapy evaluationprocedures. Patients are adults and geriatrics. * Administers Occupational Therapy treatment according to accepted standards of practice. * Performs medically prescribed Occupational Therapy treatment involving use of equipment, modalities, and activities to restore function, relieve pain, andprevent further disability. * Conduct open and closed tracheostomy suctioning as needed during treatment session. * Coordinates Occupational Therapy treatment activities with other disciplines through meetings/interdepartmentalcommunication. * Participates as a multi-disciplinary team member in staff/team meetings as required. * Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, students, and others responsible for direct client care. * Performs documentation and record keeping as required. * Provides Occupational Therapy coverage to Orthopedic Clinic 2x/week. * Participates/conducts in-service training program. /_Required Qualifications:_/// * Knowledge of theory, principles, terminology, and practices of Occupational Therapy. * Competency of Occupational Therapy evaluation methods. * Proficiency with Occupational Therapy treatment methods, techniques, and procedures * Understands the principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, neurology, orthopedics, and psychology as applied to Occupational Therapy. * Familiarity of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in providing Occupational Therapy. * Possession of a current and valid Occupational Therapist License /_Preferred Qualifications:_/ * Personal traits including confidence, assertiveness, ability to work with people and improvement in communication skills. * Necessary competency to treat adult and geriatric patients. * Knowledge of the factors, trends, and problems in providing Occupational Therapy. * Ability to work as a team member in an interdisciplinary setting. * Ability to motivate others; to establish rapport with others /_About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_/ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
