The Opportunity

The Massage Therapist/Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Boston Bruins plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the health, performance, and well-being of our athletes. This position is dedicated to serving as the primary massage therapist on staff and assisting in athletic training services. By integrating expert care and support, the Massage Therapist/Assistant Athletic Trainer ensures that our athletes are physically prepared, optimally recovered, and able to perform at their best on and off the ice.

Responsibilities

  • Therapeutic Massage: Provide therapeutic massage services to athletes to aid in muscle relaxation, injury prevention, and recovery. Utilize various techniques to address specific needs and conditions.

  • Treatment Plans: Develop and implement individualized massage treatment plans based on assessments and athlete feedback.

  • Injury Prevention: Develop and implement injury prevention programs tailored to individual athletes and team needs. Educate athletes on injury prevention techniques and exercises.

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough assessments of athletic injuries and provide accurate diagnoses. Collaborate with team physicians and other healthcare professionals to determine the best course of treatment.

  • Treatment and Rehabilitation: Administer appropriate treatment and rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Monitor progress and adjust plans as necessary to ensure effective recovery.

  • Emergency Care: Provide immediate care and first aid during practices, games, and events. Be prepared to handle emergency situations efficiently and effectively.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

  • Practice and Game Support: Assist with athletic training duties during practices, games, and other team activities.

  • Travel: Travel with the team to away games and tournaments, providing on-site support and care as needed.

  • Equipment and Supplies: Assist in the maintenance and organization of athletic training facilities, including the management of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the Board of Certification (BOC). Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Certification in massage therapy from an accredited program. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in athletic training and massage therapy, preferably in a professional or collegiate sports setting.

  • Strong knowledge of injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques. Proficiency in various massage therapy techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a team and handle high pressure situations.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, stretching, and manual manipulation. Must be able to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
