Boston University HUMAN RESOURCES & ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER, School of Social Work, Administrative in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The School of Social Work is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HR and Administrative Manager. This key leadership position will report to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and will be responsible for overseeing personnel management and providing financial assistance in managing the multimillion-dollar payroll budget. The Manager will be integral in managing positions within the school and ensuring smooth operations in staff and faculty personnel matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personnel Management: Oversee all staff personnel matters, including new hires, terminations, onboarding, disciplinary actions, and union issues. Evaluate position descriptions for new and existing roles. Manage performance evaluations and advise on merit pool allocations. Guide supervisors in career leveling and salary negotiations to ensure equity. Represent the School of Social Work in communications with Human Resources.

  • Human Resources Operations: Maintain employee positions and process personnel actions via BU Works. Assist non-exempt employees with weekly time entries and payroll transactions. Work with managers on hiring needs, job descriptions, and coordinate with HR and Office of Research for appropriate position grading. Lead interview processes and reconcile position reports with fund management.

  • Special Projects and Training: Lead HR initiatives and training series. Develop career paths and onboarding/offboarding processes. Ensure accurate SAP data management for all positions.

  • Policy Implementation: Implement and streamline HR policies and procedures. Strategize and analyze personnel scenarios for efficient solutions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelors Degree with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or Masters Degree with 3 years of professional experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Strong time-management abilities and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in higher education or similar environments.

  • Familiarity with SAP or similar systems for HR and payroll management.

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures related to faculty, staff, and researcher appointments.
