Job Summary

This role is at the prestigious Harvard Business School, specifically within the Executive Education program. We are looking for a chef with union experience and strong people skills to lead a team of 40-50 hourly staff and 2 salaried direct reports. This position requires high volume and heavy catering experience, as well as the flexibility to work nights and some weekends.

The Executive Chef oversees breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Executive Education, with the servery open from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm, six days a week. Additionally, you will manage all catering and special event menus.

This individual will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment for the staff. You will prepare or direct the preparation of meals in accordance with corporate programs and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring compliance with all sanitation, ServSafe, safety, production, and merchandising standards

  • Motivate, train, develop, and direct back-of-house employees to meet operational objectives and customer satisfaction

  • Ensure high-quality food items are creatively prepared and presented cost-effectively

  • Assist in planning, ordering, inventory, and food preparation

  • Support cost control and expenditure management for the account

  • Implement new culinary programs in collaboration with marketing and culinary teams

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Services Technology/Management, or related field; or A.O.S. Degree in Culinary Arts with additional specialized training

  • 3-5 years of relevant culinary experience

  • Proficiency in various kitchen positions and stations

  • Ability to think quickly and produce and serve meals on the fly

  • Knowledge of food costs and quality identification

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills

  • Applied food service sanitation certification, SERVSAFE, and/or HACCP federal guideline certification

  • Understanding of current culinary market trends and creative food presentation preferred
