The new and innovative Unit is committed to protecting and expanding access to reproductive and sexual health care and working to ensure that all people in Massachusetts can determine if, when, and how to have children and to raise their families in safe and secure environments. The Unit pursues this mission through a combination of strategic investigations and enforcement actions, multi-state and federal advocacy, policy development, and community education and prevention. Primary Duties: In consultation with the Director, the Deputy Director will be primarily responsible for building and leading the RJU’s portfolio of litigation and strategic investigations. In particular, the Deputy Director will be responsible for: (1) developing, pursuing, and managing strategic investigations and enforcement work to protect and advance reproductive justice in Massachusetts and across the country; (2) monitoring the shifting national landscape on reproductive and sexual health care access, including but not limited to, abortion care, maternal health, and gender-affirming care; (3) anticipating further rollbacks in reproductive rights to help ensure that Massachusetts is positioned to respond appropriately; and (4) leading and/or supporting any litigation or other matter involving reproductive justice in which our office may become involved. In addition, the Deputy Director will work closely with the Director on community engagement events and other opportunities to enhance the local profile of the AGO's reproductive justice work; building bridges with local and national subject-matter experts, providers, advocates, and others; developing policy proposals and/or guidance designed to protect and advance reproductive justice in Massachusetts; and managing the RJU’s interns, fellows, and other attorneys and staff who work on reproductive justice matters.
