Boston Architectural College Controller in Boston, Massachusetts

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance & Administration (VPFA), the Controller is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and related tasks, including evaluating expenses and analyzing the BAC’s financial position under specific regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities include but not limited to organizing, directing, and evaluating a wide variety of financial activities including the planning and development of the College's basic system of accounting and financial control including general ledger accounting, endowment, accounts payable, payroll, and various other tasks assigned by the VPFA.

PRIMARY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• The Controller is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and internal controls, including assisting in budget preparation and analysis, cash management, compliance requirements, and coordination of internal/external audits and tax return preparation.

• Ongoing responsibilities consist of direct management of the operations of the accounting department that includes general ledger, payroll, and accounts payable functions.

• The Controller is responsible for monitoring and reconciliation of bank and investment balances, cash flow reports, maintenance and analysis of the general ledger, and ensuring timely transactional processing of accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger posting.

• The Controller, while not responsible for the direct supervision of the bursar staff (reports to student services), has responsibility for internal controls, review of monthly accounts receivable activity, and the timely reporting and monitoring of results of revenue and student accounts receivable balances.

• This position is responsible for ensuring timely reporting results on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly schedule as determined by the Vice President for Finance and Administration

• Oversees accounting records, and maintains a system of record keeping for restricted funds such as endowments and scholarships.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervisory responsibility for Payroll Coordinator and Accounts Payable.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Salary range for this Exempt, Full- Time role will be between 100-120k annually dependent on experience.

This role includes medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as 4 weeks’ PTO.

This is a hybrid position. Up to 2 days a week in person will be required. Days in the office may vary depending on the time of year and needs of the office.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of five (5) years of successful financial management. Experience in higher education is highly desirable.

• The Controller must have thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development and analysis of financial information, preferably in a college or other similar not-for-profit organization, including strong knowledge of generally acceptable accounting principles. Knowledge of federally funded Financial Aid requirements and processes are desirable.

• Demonstrated management skills in developing and motivating direct staff reports. Excellent organizational, communication and inter-personal skills are essential.

• Computer skills using PC and proprietary accounting software are necessary. The current administrative computing systems consists of Netsuite accounting package as integrated with PowerCampus. Strong personal computer skills including knowledge of reporting writing tools, spreadsheet and other analytical software applicable to financial reporting are essential, along with the ability to develop and implement strategies regarding financial budgeting and integrated administrative systems. Knowledge of Paycom payroll systems is a plus.

EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA: Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in finance, accounting or equivalent is required.
