Her research focuses on healthcare quality, disparities in care quality and safety relating to race, ethnicity, income and language barriers, communication, patient safety (prevention of harm to patients), and care of children with chronic conditions in the clinic and at home. Her research is co-produced with adolescent patients, parents, nurses, physicians, and hospital leaders, and utilizes mixed-methods in the design and evaluation of family communication interventions. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

This Clinical Research Assistant II will be responsible for:

  • Provide support for a new Diagnostic Center of Excellence. This will include a multicenter study on successes, failures, and disparities in outpatient diagnostic processes, and testing an intervention to improve communication with families when a child is sick. The study will engage English- and Spanish-speaking families, as well as nurses, physicians and hospital leaders.

  • Provide data collection and data management services.

  • Recruit patients; administer surveys and interview parents, physicians, and nurses; assist with coding and analysis of qualitative interview transcripts; maintain REDCap databases; data entry; prepare ongoing data reports/run charts; data cleaning; grant submissions; and keep IRB documentation up-to-date.

  • Oversee data collection at multiple study sites.

  • Train and oversee study staff.

  • Assist with data collection efforts (e.g., recruit participants, conduct surveys, conduct interviews, abstract patient charts, obtain hospital administrative data).

  • Assist with preliminary quantitative (e.g., claims, survey) and/or qualitative (e.g., interview) analyses

  • Assist research biostatisticians with analysis file creation and statistical analyses.

  • Support clinical research reporting for data review, quality control checks, and interim and final analysis.

  • File human subjects review board protocols and amendments.

  • Aggregate data and aid in data cleaning and management.

  • Support manuscript submissions and other scholarship opportunities with the possibility of co-authorship.

  • Prepare graphs, charts, and other visuals.

  • Support the writing of abstracts, poster presentations, and research articles.

  • Assist with grant writing, grant preparation, and grant submissions.

  • Conduct literature searches and summarizing findings.

  • Provide meeting support (e.g., tend to logistics, prepare materials, take minutes).

  • Assist with maintaining study budgets.

  • Other duties as needed.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science, math, psychology, or related fields. A Master’s degree in public health or epidemiology is preferred but not required.

  • 1-3 years of research experience, including data entry, and data management.

  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in an organized, accurate, and timely manner.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong math skills.

  • Strong self-motivation, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The individual should be proactive, organized, and attentive to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables), and PowerPoint preferred.

  • Experience with data management or statistical software is a plus (e.g., REDCap, SAS, SPSS).

  • 2-year time commitment is preferred.
