GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the trauma program including organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to care of the injured patient. Collaborates and communicates with and between physicians, clinical staff, and departments, to coordinate trauma services and maintain continuity of care. Oversees financial aspects of the Trauma Program. Plans and oversees trauma education for staff, physicians and community as needed. Supports the trauma registry, including participation with Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Participates in the development of trauma care systems at community, state, or national levels and represents the trauma program on various hospital and community committees. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing-master’s degree preferred.

  • 5 years of work experience in Emergency, Trauma or Critical Care.

  • Knowledge of EMS systems and experience working with EMS providers preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Partner across the organization to ensure that the American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards are met. Monitors and tracks trauma patients throughout the continuum of care. Maintain oversight of the daily operational aspects of the trauma program. In coordination with other clinical professionals, assists with planning and implementing clinical protocols/practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for clinical practice. Monitor performance improvement activities in conjunction with the PI Coordinator, including clinical outcomes and system issues related to the quality-of-care delivery. Support the PIPS process by developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identifying trends and sentinel events, and assists with outcome assessment and action plans while maintaining confidentiality. Support the financial aspects of the Trauma Program. Support Trauma Registry staff in the collection, coding, scoring, and reporting of registry data to facilitate performance improvement activities. Maintains oversight of all trauma system issues and provides additional trauma program reports, queries and data for research projects as requested. Provides oversight for intra-facility, inter-facility and regional professional staff development and education. Partner with administration and other departmental leaders to ensure compliance with trauma program requirements. Participate in case review and standardization of clinical practice guidelines. Partner with the Injury Prevention, Outreach, and Education Coordinator to deliver trauma community education, outreach and injury prevention programs. Participates in development of trauma care systems at community, state, and national level and represents hospital on committees as appropriate. Liaisons for EMS agencies as appropriate. Involved in research selection, analysis, and distribution of findings, and facilitating protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis. Meets medical center’s Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Basic computer skills
