St. Luke's Health System Physician Advisor in Boise, Idaho

Overview

Reporting to the Chief Physician Advisor, the Physician Advisor (PA) is a key member of St. Luke’s leadership team and is charged with meeting the organization’s goals and objectives for assuring the effective, efficient utilization of health care services. The PA serves the health system through teaching, consulting, and advising the care management, utilization review and clinical documentation departments and hospital leadership on matters regarding physician practice patterns, over- and under-utilization of resources, medical necessity, levels of care, care progression, denial management, compliance with governmental and private payer regulations, appropriate physician coding and documentation requirements.

What You Can Expect:

  • Participates in ongoing training and education related to the Physician Advisor role and responsibilities including topics related to Utilization Management, Care Management, Clinical Documentation, Medicare compliance and other related areas as requested.

  • Reviews issues identified by case managers to ensure appropriate follow-up, recommends improvement initiatives as needed, and makes referrals to the appropriate department chair or medical staff leadership as necessary.

  • Provides consultation to medical staff, nurses and case management staff regarding complex clinical issues and advises on justification required for continued stay, medical necessity and utilization management.

Position is part-time, .5 FTE, allowing for the option to add clinical hours up to 1.0 FTE, if desired.

  • Seven 8-hour shifts (generally 8 am to 430 pm, Monday through Friday) per month

  • 16 hours per month for preparing educational content and presenting educational content

  • At least 1 education session to clinicians/physicians/advanced practice providers per month

  • 8 hours of administrative time per month- this includes time in UM committee meetings, preparing for UM committee meetings, weekly physician advisor meetings, Length of Stay meetings or other facility or system-wide meetings as may be deemed necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine or Osteopathy and successful completion of an accredited residency program.

  • 3 years' clinical practice to include demonstrated progressive leadership roles within healthcare organization(s).

  • Current, unrestricted medical license in state of practice.
