Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the team in preparation, distribution, and reporting of payroll, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, ensuring pay is processed on time and accurately. The Payroll Manager supports the Payroll department in providing support for payroll related issues. This position demands an uncommon balance of delivering results and drive, along with interpersonal savvy and strong communication abilities. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

  • Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion

  • Responsible and managing department budget

  • Coordinates and maintain relationship with benefits department

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices

  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors

  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures

  • Maintain EE records in payroll system including tax, address, direct deposit, location, benefit deductions, garnishments

  • Assist with timecard entry, troubleshooting, and weekly processes

  • Reviews and monitors bi-weekly Canadian payroll, RRSP reporting

  • Maintain all technical interfaces with payroll systems and system integrity

  • Monitor Payroll Systems (DayForce, Dynamics 365, and Empower) to ensure data consistency and accuracy.

  • Work with IT to maintain interfaces

  • Monitors and reviews, and ensures timely filing of quarterly tax reports

  • Maintain general ledger and mapping

  • Reconciliations of payroll liability accounts

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Act as Payroll Subject Matter Expert for testing, and ERP projects

Required Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required

  • Ten+ years of related experience

  • 6+ years in payroll

  • 4+ years in management

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

  • Proficient with payroll software, preferably Ceridian

  • CPP or other related certification

  • International experience with payroll preferred

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $100-$115K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
