Provides mental health services including assessment, crisis intervention and brief counseling, to an inmate population in a fast paced environment, provides clinical consultations to staff and others, and assists with mental health related program development. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Health Services Division.

SHIFT INFORMATION

Must be willing to work a variety of hours which includes weekends & holidays. (Schedule can be either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts).

PAY PLAN

Clinicians/Social Workers based on experience and licensure levels:

  • Level 1: 0-12 months of experience with LMSW licensure - $34.00/hr

  • Level 2: 1-3 years of experience with LMSW licensure - $35.00/hr

  • Level 3: Over 3 years of experience with LMSW licensure - $36.00/hr

  • Level 4: Less than 2 years of experience with LCSW licensure - $37.00/hr

  • Level 5: Over 2 years of experience with LCSW licensure - $38.50/hr

  • Level 6: LCSW licensure with IBOL (ID Board of Licensing) & CCHP (Certified Correctional Health Professional) - $40.00/hr

Essential Functions

  • Conducts bio-psycho-social and risk assessments to determine inmate needs, eligibility for services and level of care;

  • Schedules appointments with internal medical providers when appropriate and explains services to clients;

  • Provides clients with crisis intervention services and individual counseling as needed;

  • Promotes client self-determination by addressing special needs of the client;

  • Participates in interdisciplinary team staffing to formulate treatment plans;

  • Identifies and teams with other community resource agencies to design, coordinate, and provide client assistance and intervention;

  • Completes and submits applications for commitments when necessary;

  • Works and maintains eligibility to work all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, whether assigned or on an as needed or on-call basis due to clinical coverage being required in the jail 7 days per week;

  • Takes action to reduce risk to clients upon discharge from facility by organizing emergency and crisis intervention, and after-hours on-call services;

  • Documents interactions in an electronic medical record.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • May conduct psychoeducational groups;

  • Assists with recruitment, hiring and training of social work/counseling staff;

  • Serves on committees, as requested;

  • Performs related work and other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited college or university;

  • Must be a licensed Social Worker (LMSW) or licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Idaho;

  • Current clinical license is preferred;

  • Skill in creating a respectful atmosphere;

  • Skill in developing rapport with clients;

  • Skill in making correct assessments and implementing treatment plans;

  • Knowledge of correctional work environment;

  • Knowledge of program development and needs assessment;

  • Knowledge of systems theory and background;

  • Current knowledge of the use of psychiatric medications;

  • Current knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5);

  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of agencies within the community;

  • Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries with an inmate population;

  • Ability to plan and organize work;

  • Ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations;

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;

  • Ability to develop and sustain collaborative working relationships with other members of the Sheriff's Office staff and work as part of a team to accomplish agency goals.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of or experience in correctional settings is preferred;

  • Must be willing to work a variety of hours including weekends;

  • Must pass an oral examination, polygraph examination, credit and background check prior to hire;

  • Must adhere to the Code of Ethics for Ada County Sheriff's Offices, the NASW Code of Ethics, and the Code of Ethics of the American Counseling Association;

  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment in a jail setting and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;

  • Position frequently requires a combination of sitting and standing to accomplish tasks and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.; and

  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
