Summary:

This position is established at the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) level and may be underfilled at the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS) level.

Vocational Rehabilitation services provide professional counseling and guidance to individuals with disabilities with the objective of defining and achieving an appropriate employment goal.

Depending on open positions, applicants can be hired to serve a high school aged population receiving pre-employment transition services, a general caseload, or a probation and parole caseload.

Processes to be performed include intake, evaluation, eligibility determination, plan development, employment development and placement, case closure and post-employment services.

The incumbent serves as a liaison with public agencies and employers, private sector employers, and other educational and community entities.

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors who demonstrate proficiency receive their rights to approve their own eligibility determinations, individualized plans for employment (IPE), and case closures.

Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists work under the supervision of a manager and require approval for their eligibility determinations, individualized plans for employment (IPE), and case closures.

Minimum Qualifications:

You must upload documentation of any professional license or your CRC that qualifies you for hire at the VRC level.

Ability and willingness to travel (which may include overnight travel) to provide service to customers, and for training, meetings and conferences, as needed. Caseload coverage may require travel across a large geographical area on an ongoing and regular basis.

VRC level :

Current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation obtained through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC);or

Graduation from a program accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) or the Commission on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) with a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling;or

Holds a current license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) issued by the State of Idaho Division of Occupational Licensing;or

A Doctorate degree in Philosophy, Psychology, Counseling or Social Workplusa minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience;or

Master of Social Work (MSW) degreeplusa minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience;or

Master of Special Education (MSpEd)plusa minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

Master of Forensic Psychologyplusa minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

VRS Level :

Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or currently in a master’s degree program) in a related field of study. Related fields of study include but are not limited to: Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, General Studies, or Education.

A VRS position requires completion of a Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) to meet the CRCC standards within five (5) years of hire. This requires completion of a master’s degree or additional classes if already holding a related master’s degree. Progress toward meeting the CRCC standards is evaluated on an ongoing basis. Adequate progress toward completion of CSPD is a condition of continued employment. Upon completion of CSPD, a VRS is promoted to the VRC level and receives VRC level pay.

Both the VRC and VRS position require the following:

Working knowledge of office equipment such as printers and scanners typically gained through work experience using this equipment.

Working knowledge of an email application (including sending, forwarding, attaching and calendar functions) and word processor software, as well as familiarity with the use of a search engine (e.g., Google, Microsoft Edge, etc.) typically gained by at least one year of experience using these applications on a regular and frequent basis.
