State of Idaho OpportunityFinancial Technician, State Public Defender's OfficeFull-time (40 hours) - $49,500 - $55,000 annually D.O.E.

The Idaho State Public Defender (SPD) is a newly created state agency which provides trial representation to indigent criminal defendants pursuant to Idaho Code § 19-5905. The SPD is responsible for all indigent defense cases throughout the State of Idaho, including both juveniles and adults. We are seeking a Case Management System Coordinator who is driven by a commitment to public defense to oversee the administration of our case management and intake processes.

POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the Principal Financial Specialist with processing fiscal programs, accounts payable and accounts receivable. By supporting accurate, transparent, and compliant financial activities, the Financial Technician contributes to the agency's overall financial integrity.

This is a non-classified position that reports to the Financial Specialist, Principal and the Operations Director.

Example of Duties

  • Receive and process invoices, purchase orders, and intercompany billings in accordance with state and agency policies.

  • Review and make mid-level approvals for accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • Interpret and enforce fiscal policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to policy and procedure development.

  • Develop and maintain a knowledge of Luma and its systems to be an internal resource for Luma related inquiries.

  • Work with State Controller’s Office, the Office of Information Technology Services, and other state agencies and/or vendors to problem solve when issues arise.

  • Assist in maintaining an organized database of all electronic copies of financial statements, including but not limited to quotes, invoices, and intercompany communications.

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for use in daily business operations.

  • Respond promptly and accurately to auditor inquiries and findings.

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy in financial systems and reports.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve financial processes and reporting.

  • Occasionally the Financial Specialist may be asked to work with vendors and internal departments to resolve invoicing and payment issues.

  • Other duties or as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of personal computers, and spreadsheets.

  • Ability to train others in bookkeeping and the use financial software, including Microsoft Excel.

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices.

  • Desire to expand duties and responsibilities.

  • Experience researching and compiling financial information and preparing summaries and reports.

  • Some experience in reviewing accounts payable and accounts reviewable for processing and generating related reports.

  • Knowledge of Luma desired.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Some experience working in state or local government finance.

  • Ability to find opportunities to add value to the team without being asked.
