The Shift Lead Engineer is responsible for coordinating and communicating the area priorities for all equipment maintenance and/or process responsibilities for assigned areas. They supervise both Engineers and Technicians as well as coordinate directly with equipment vendors and 1st Shift team members. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Safety & Quality:

  • Completes all required safety training and conducts all work in accordance with safety policies and regulations

  • Follows-up on safety and quality related issues immediately and works towards resolution with stakeholders

  • Performs and facilitates audits and submits good catches on safety issues

  • Proactively reduces incidents of personal injuries, safety hazards or environmental releases

  • Ensures tools are operated and maintained tools according to documentation and guidelines to ensure safety and quality expectations are met

  • Serves as the primary area contact for Fab-wide Issues (excursions, line-downs, critical down tools, etc.)

  • Ensures proper tool documentation/reaction mechanisms exist for shift teams and submits updates to content when needed

  • Maintains a constant improvement program for defect reduction / yield improvement / team performance

  • Develops and executes plans to resolve area hardware and process related failures to mitigate quality issues

Communication & Collaboration

  • Partners with process owners and equipment owners to resolve tool process issues and maximize tool output

  • Collaborates with supervisor and areas leaders to create personal performance and development goals

  • Partners with Shift Operations, Facilities teams and Suppliers to drive area issues, set priorities and meet department goals

  • Communicates well, both written and verbally, showing and a proven ability to present highly technical information to internal and external audiences

  • Partners with suppliers to resolve tool problems, defect issues, and maximize tool availability

  • Improves communication and collaboration with area, department, and network partners, as well as with any external customers

  • Leads and coordinates meetings and initiates follow-up actions

  • Demonstrates strong partnering, negotiation and teamwork skills

  • Partners with area leadership to create area goals and line of sight goals for all team members

Technical/Data Analysis

  • Analyzes data to make critical decisions and drive cost reduction activities

  • Provides troubleshooting support for complex problems and address root causes

  • Serves as a key area resource for technical support and/or providing required technical resources to support Fab requirements

  • Maintains tool matching and drives machine hardware and software consistency

  • Provides effective and timely guidance to resolve equipment/process issues and is highly engaged in key problem resolution

  • Drives a culture of Total Productive Maintenance including workstation health reports, continuous improvement items, maintenance optimization documents

  • Ensures plans are in place to address chronic tool and process issues

  • Supports department business processes such as tool installations/modifications/relocations/removals

  • Continuously drives personal development in leadership methods and technical device, process and equipment knowledge

Project Management/Planning

  • Manages projects to ensure deliverables are completed within the required scope, schedule and budget

  • Tracks actions and provides escalation path or resources to ensure actions will be completed on time

  • Drives team to focus on priority issues and stay within the scope of the project

  • Coordinates and leads meetings and initiates follow-up actions

Performance Management

  • Conducts regular performance management and professional development of direct reports through clear expectations and accountability

  • Ensures direct reports utilize the performance management tools, including maintaining documentation to capture feedback, plans, and progress to support performance rating

  • Ensures team members complete all assigned tasks before critical deadlines are passed by maintaining open dialogue and feedback

  • Defines organizational roles to meet the overall job expectations of the team

  • Knows Micron policies and partners closely with HR

  • Ensures the area has succession plans for all key positions

  • Provides guidance to identify, develop and promote technical expertise (process, device, equipment, etc.)

  • Meets regularly with team members to review performance, provide feedback and create development plans utilizing Workday

  • Partners with direct reports to create long/short-term goals and projects that meet individual needs and the needs of the department

Fab Performance

  • Constantly monitors and improves the performance of area KPIs

  • Collaborates with manufacturing and planning to maximize area output and minimize wait and lost time

  • Drives reduction in long term down events, manufacturing availability improvements, and excursion prevention to optimize overall fab performance

  • Prioritizes projects and area focus on correcting tactical issues that impact productivity, as well as developing strategic solutions to achieve long term improvements

  • Partners with manufacturing and planning to optimize the workstation balance in the area

Successful Candidates must have the following Qualifications:

  • Flexible with job responsibilities and shift assignments

  • Proven ability to lead a technical team to meet area and department goals and manage the performance of direct reports

  • Proven ability to develop and mentor team members and lead by example in demonstrating Micron values and leadership competencies

  • Intermediate understanding of the process flow related to area equipment

  • Advanced understanding of the Fab process areas including area processing equipment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to present highly technical information

  • Intermediate PC skills including a familiarity with MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Strong understanding of SPC principles

  • Basic data extraction, analysis, and reporting skills

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot basic problems and address root causes

  • Proven time management, organization, and prioritization skills

  • Proven ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision

Education & Experience

  • Preferred BS/AAS Engineering degree or equivalent

  • Four years of leadership in manufacturing or fab engineering experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree.
