Summary Statement

After-school Rec Center Attendant supervises, engages, and leads activities for youth in grades 1-6 in afterschool programs at one of the City's 8 school-based community centers: Hillcrest, Morley Nelson, Whitney, Grace Jordan, Taft, Whittier, Jefferson, and McMillan.

  • Assists program supervisor and staff in coordinating age-appropriate activities

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all community center after-school participants

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Works a flexible schedule Monday- Friday, 3:00-6:00 pm

  • Great flexible position for students

  • Open to all interested persons aged 18 and older

Essential Functions

Prepares materials and supplies for youth arts and crafts projects and assists participants when necessary. (40%)

Encourages and engages youths in a variety of indoor and outdoor group recreational activities such as basketball, tag, and tetherball. (40%)

Makes sure equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement. (20%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

One year experience volunteering or working with youths and/or teens in a daycare, sports league, afterschool program or similar environment.

Ability to provide basic instruction to youths; participate in mild-to-moderate recreational activities/sports; recognize and redirect misbehavior; interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; work independently with limited supervision; exercise considerable judgment and discretion.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

High school diploma or GED. 2 years experience working with youths or teens as a coach, instructor, teacher’s aide, or nanny. City of Boise daycare license. Certified in CPR.

Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently loud and occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
