APTIM Geomatics Survey Intern in Boca Raton, Florida

Job Overview:

Aptim is interested in hiring a Geomatics Survey Intern. We are looking for a highly motivated individual for a full-time position that provides the opportunity for progressive responsibility and training under the direct supervision of a Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM). The successful candidate will obtain surveying experience in coastal communities throughout Florida and around the Gulf of Mexico, performing Topographic, Hydrographic, and UAV surveys.

This geomatics intern will be responsible for documenting field conditions with photographs, generating concept-level sketches, setting up field surveying equipment in support of engineering projects, and general operations assistance, and includes project coordination, equipment maintenance, and resource management support. Additionally, this position may include operation of levels, electronic calculators, electronic distance measuring devices, electronic data collectors, total stations, GNSS equipment and other precision instruments; assistance with the establishment and setting of survey monuments, and preparation of field notes for documentation of field survey activities.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Perform hydrographic or topographic field survey data collection using precision GPS/GNSS, total stations, and levelling instruments

  • Post process field data, compute quantities, create charts, and reports

  • Collect and record field notes during survey data collection operations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Attending an accredited education institution pursuing a degree in STEM, Geomatics, Land Surveying, or Mapping.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Works with others as part of a team and performs all duties in a safe and professional manner

  • Ability to remain outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and inclement weather conditions

  • Ability to work on small vessels offshore and nearshore, and work with ATV's along beaches and coastlines

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Workdays may consist of 12+ hours a day, including nights and weekends depending on project schedule needs. Generally, field work 60% of the time, office work 40% of the time but may change during different seasonal work-periods throughout the year.
