Basic Job Functions:
The Plant Metallurgist will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating steel production processes to determine and assist in making process improvements. The primary focus of this position will be, but not limited to, working closely with operations and maintenance teams leading quality improvement and training efforts; using statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement, process development and cost reduction activities; and participating in safety efforts. Other responsibilities include handling customer issues, assisting the Sales department with complaints and inquiries, and miscellaneous duties. This will also include conducting tests and inspections of products to evaluate quality and performance. The Plant Metallurgist will apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques and will be expected to work in all areas of the operation. Working hours may vary depending on the project or task assigned, which will include some weekends and travel will be required as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or equivalent engineering field.
Minimum of 2 years Steel Mill experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Working knowledge of SQL or similar language used to interact with databases
Working knowledge of process data trend analysis applications

Preferences:
Advanced degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
Experience in steel physical metallurgy and thermomechanical processing.
Experience with clean steel and submerged casting practices.
Working knowledge of mechanical testing equipment, such as tensile testing machines, Charpy testing machines, and hardness testing machines
Working knowledge of analytical equipment, such as OE spectrometers, XRFs, LECOs, metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, and SEM
Working knowledge of ASTM standards specifications.
