National Grid Renewables is seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience in communications troubleshooting, SCADA systems, and working with multiple teams across the US. The Electrical Engineer will primarily provide technical support for operational data from our renewable facilities back to the NG Renewables Remote Operations Center (ROC); ensuring data is useful, helping to troubleshoot issues remotely (or locally if needed) and develop standard practices for new facilities. This opportunity may be remote. What you will be doing: End to End Data Implementation and Troubleshooting: Design, develop, modify, and evaluate standards, specifications, systems, processes, or facilities to support company objectives as a subject matter expert Support construction projects by reviewing and commenting on equipment points lists, communication protocols, and master I/O lists Work closely with the construction, operations, IT, and asset management teams to assure secure, reliable, and accurate data telemetry from our generation facilities Troubleshoot bad quality data and support cleanup of nuisance alarms Lead discussions on data point selection for alarm priorities and HMI displays to support efficient facility operations. Support the ongoing development, and operation of the National Grid Renewables Remote Operations Center (ROC) with a focus on site data inputs Partner with SMEs and cross-functional teams, as needed, to ensure that databases and tools contain accurate and updated data Self-manage workload and priorities to align with company initiatives and project goals Support commissioning of data from point origination through ROC displays ensuring project timelines are being maintained. Support NERC testing of alarm paths every 6 years. Participate in a rotating “on-call engineer” schedule supporting critical events when engineering support is needed beyond on-site plant management and ROC capabilities Document processes and procedures relating to your work Other duties as assigned What you bring to this role: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; specifically for power systems Base level knowledge of communication systems commonly used within the power generation industry for the purpose of configuring and troubleshooting SEL relays/RTAC, network devices, substation equipment, and other OEM devices. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Teams; Sharepoint) Analytical minded; Detail-oriented; Well-organized; multi-tasker Interest in further development of expertise surrounding SCADA and Plant Control systems to include: industrial and utility communications protocols (e.g. OPC, Modbus, DNP, IEC 61850), SCADA/EMS system maintenance, Plant Control and PLC systems maintenance, communications (Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, fiber optic, wireless, etc.), utility protection systems and communication devices (protective relays – SEL, GE), industrial control systems and communications devices (PLCs, Intelligent Electronic devices) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions Ability to understand technical documentation related to renewable energy projects such as market requirements, interconnection agreements, facilities studies Approximately 20-30% travel is required (during commissioning of all new sites) Strong preference may be given to candidates with the following: Professional Engineer (PE) Registration Protection and Controls experience Electrical system analytics National Grid Renewables believe fostering diversity, equity and inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.
