The Cigna Group Senior Advisor, Policy Communications in Bloomfield, Connecticut

Cigna is seeking an experienced public affairs practitioner who is passionate about improving healthcare affordability, access, equity, and innovation and ready to start making an impact.

In the newly-created role of Senior Advisor, Policy Communications, this individual will have a combination of healthcare, policy and communications experience and will be responsible for shaping, delivering and measuring policy campaigns aligned to the company’s business and advocacy goals. This highly-skilled thinker, writer and do-er will work within The Cigna Group’s Communications Team, while partnering closely with leaders from our Public Affairs, Marketing and Legal functions.

The role requires a motivated professional who is adept at moving from strategy to execution, can operate with autonomy, works well under pressure, and has proven strength in building strong cross-functional relationships with senior leadership and matrix partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute public affairs strategies, which will include:

  • Conducting environmental analysis of current landscape on relevant issues

  • Providing insights, ideas and solutions to support key policy initiatives and shape thought leadership initiatives

  • Crafting powerful and impactful messages and talking points

  • Testing and refining language based on stakeholder insights

  • Developing and deploying content strategies for target audiences (including overseeing/producing video, podcast and written content)

  • Cultivating innovative partnerships with media, clinical, patient advocacy, and/or academic organizations

  • Securing and preparing executive speaking engagements

  • Managing external partners and providing regular written and oral progress updates

  • Leverage cutting-edge data, analytics and AI platforms to determine campaign resonance, effectiveness and next best actions

  • Establish strong and collaborative working relations with internal stakeholders and external agency partners to anticipate issues before they arise and collaborate to develop plans to manage issues

  • Help business stakeholders appropriately assess risk of decisions and prepare for different scenarios and outcomes

Our Ideal Candidate Will Offer:

  • At least 8-12 years of experience working in public relations, political/policy communications, public/corporate affairs, or media relations within the healthcare and pharmaceutical policy landscape. Capitol Hill, state government, or trade association experience a plus

  • Deep understanding of health care and pharmaceutical policy and issues landscape

  • Evidence of keen insight into the integration between business and communications’ objectives

  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels and vehicles

  • Experience in crisis, issue and/or reputation management and issue monitoring

  • Ability to skillfully manage multiple projects, deadlines and deliverables

  • Experience working in a global, highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment

  • Tact and discretion to work with confidential information and colleagues at all levels

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, journalism or health policy

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 107,900 - 179,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
