We currently have an opportunity for a Raw Materials Technologist / Ingredient Specialist to join the Regional Technical Application team in our Rhodes HQ, supporting our Blayney Factory and our other factories in New Zealand and Thailand. The selected candidate for this role will lead ingredient support for the long-term business strategy in the petfood category. He/she will manage regional technical ingredient development and optimization projects, joining expertise on nutrition, formulation and ingredients for product and factory improvements.

Location: This role can be based in our Blayney factory or our Corporate HQ in Rhodes, Sydney. Due to the nature of the role, he/she will be required to work out of our Blayney factory at least 5 days a month.

A day in the life…

Reporting to the Formulation, Nutrition and Ingredients Platform Manager, key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage regional technical ingredient development and optimization projects.

  • Apply ingredient development and optimization for new and existing products across Dry, Wet and Treats platforms.

  • Lead the ingredient stream of complex innovation and renovation (I&R) projects by working closely with Procurement, Marketing, R&D and relevant Technical and Production teams.

  • Work closely with business to guide the development and execution with excellence of technical solutions that will fit business objectives in terms of cost, helping Supply and TAG organizations to develop initiatives for cost reduction by new ingredient development.

  • Work closely with Regional Sustainability Lead to incorporate defined sustainability initiatives into ingredient selection and sourcing.

  • Address technical issues and questions about properties, production and specifications of raw materials.

  • Apply ingredient knowledge and understanding, to help the business to translate consumer insights into business solutions.

  • Support Quality Assurance with VAM (Vendor Audit Management) in order to guarantee availability of suitable ingredients at favourable prices.

What will make you successful

  • Joining a collaborative team of specialists, you will be a strong professional with a drive to deliver quality outcomes.

  • Have 5+ years’ experience, preferably as petfood ingredient / nutritionist / formulator or similar functions in the food industry

  • Related experience in QA, Manufacturing or related positions in petfood or in other type of animal or food industry may be considered.

  • Be abreast of trends in food science and technology, ideally with a focus on petfood.

  • Have a strong understanding of ingredients and their functions in relation to food and be able to convey this knowledge to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate experience in management of technical projects.

  • Good knowledge of processes used in petfood such as extrusion, baking and retort.

  • Good understanding of formulation science and strong maths skills.

  • Ability to travel internationally is required.

  • Ability to effectively work in team environment with large and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and a proven capacity to influence and negotiate to drive high standards of performance and quality.
