Primary Function:\ Perform NDT to verify conformance to specified customer specifications and code requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret drawings and other documents.
  • Verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler metals used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials.
  • Verify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedure.
  • Verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that the welding performed is performed in conformance to the applicable procedure.
  • Witness performance and testing of procedure qualification tests or supervise these activities when performed by outside agencies.
  • Verify documentation of procedure qualification test results.
  • Verify that welders, welding operators, and tack welders have been qualified in conformance to the applicable standards, and that theyre qualified to use the welding procedures specified for the work.
  • Witness testing of the welder test assemblies and/or welding operator qualification test assemblies or supervise these activities when performed by outside agencies.
  • Verify documentation of performance qualification test results.
  • Provide notification when evidence the welder\'s or welding operator\'s work does not conform to the requirements of the applicable standard.
  • Provide notification when the welder\'s or welding operator\'s qualification is not current.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to meet business plan objectives.
  • Inspects materials and products for conformance to specifications using fixed or preset measuring instruments.
  • Ensures materials and products are in accordance with established tolerance levels for quality and performance.
  • Perform visual inspection of welded item for conformance to American Welding Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards.

QC Inspector I

Entry level

Some fabrication experience.

Little to no QC experience

Has or is obtaining hours for VT level II.

Has or is obtaining CWI certification.\ Can perform basic dimensional inspections

0 - 4

QC Inspector II

Intermediate level

QC experience in fabrication, some experience in ASME Section III, Section VIII, AISC, and/or NQA-1

Has or working towards VT level II, PT level II, MT level II, and possibly UT-Thickness level II and/or additional certifications.

May also have CWI.

4 - 7

QC Inspector III

Advanced level

Experience QC with strong knowledge of ASME Section III, Section VIII, AISC, and/or NQA-1

Has VT level II, MT level II, PT level II, BLT level II, RT level II and/or UT-Thickness level II are expected for the higher end of scale.

Additional certifications for testing or inspections such as coating inspections

QC Inspector III Lead

Supervisory level (Meets QC level I through III)

May also have additional experience beyond QC III.

10 15+

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:\ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); knowledge in an occupational function that has a direct relationship to welded assemblies fabricated to national or international standards. Knowledge of dimensional inspectional a plus.

Previous certification to the American Society of Nondestructive Testing, Visual Testing, Level II and additional nondestructive certification a plus.

Additional skills:\ Qualifications in accordance with and familiarity and experience with AISC 360 requirements for quality control of welding and bolting inspection.

AWS CWI preferred, but not mandatory.

Knowledge with SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW welding processes.
