A Principal Designer in our Environment, Energy & Water (EWE) SH&E Team will be instrumental in fostering positive engagement, providing support, advice, and guidance, as well as disseminating CDM knowledge among our employees, managers, and EWE leaders, advocating best practices and reinforcing our commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

The role involves collaborating with our teams and clients to provide Principal Designer services across the Environment, Water, and Energy sectors, from the initial concept to project completion, often navigating multiple CDM cycles throughout the project's lifespan. Immediate growth areas include renewables, national energy infrastructure, and water infrastructure, among others.

In this pivotal role, you will be an integral member of the SH&E Team, collaborating with peers to foster growth and achieve delivery objectives in Health and Safety services, with a special emphasis on Principal Design.

You will report to the EWE SH&E Director for the UK&I region and aid in the development of our Principal Designer resources, contributing to an environment that encourages professional growth.

Role requirements are as follows:

Be a Safety Champion: Act as a prominent advocate for health (including wellbeing), safety, and the environment, encouraging continuous improvement and innovation to cultivate and reinforce a mature safety culture in accordance with AECOM's policies, procedures, and SH&E strategies.

Be Proactive: The Principal Designer's role at EWE, along with our overarching SH&E strategy, is predicated on proactive engagement and execution. Our Principal Designers spearhead the pre-construction phase, champion risk mitigation, enhance communication and cooperation, and manage the transition from design to construction phase, including the production of health and safety files, thereby delivering added value to our projects and clients.

Deliver Excellence: Ensure excellence and added value in every task, activity, and deliverable within the scope of your role. Strive for continuous enhancement of our methods, processes, and results.

Provide CDM Support, Advice & Guidance: Offer expert CDM counsel to EWE staff and clients to ensure the effective execution of our statutory duties and those of our clients, proactively and professionally addressing any legislative discrepancies.

Management: Supervise and manage a diverse portfolio of projects from the bidding stage to completion throughout EWE.

One SH&E Team: Collaborate with colleagues and managers to form a cohesive team, fostering respect, support, and cooperation to attain our collective goals.

Management Systems Implementation – Advocate for the adherence to procedures and process requirements throughout your operational scope to foster compliance and bolster our safety culture.

Wellbeing – Enhance employee wellbeing through AECOM's initiatives, engagement activities, check-ins, and take necessary measures to protect health.

Mentor and Support Junior Staff – Offer mentorship, guidance, and support to junior Principal Designers and project delivery personnel.

SH&E Promotion - Aid in the execution of AECOM's behavioural safety and health campaigns, track results, and report on program efficacy.
