WSP USA Capture Lead in Birmingham, United Kingdom

WSP is looking for a Capture Lead to work on some of our most strategic prospects across the breadth of our UK business.

The Capture Lead is responsible for driving a team through the capture process, meeting with clients and developing a winning offer with our technical and bid professionals. They work closely with a Prospect Director to develop client relationships, shape capture strategy, develop a delivery solution and create differentiating value propositions that optimise chances of bid success. They are responsible for translating this capture strategy into bid deliverables. The Capture Lead is then part of the bid team to ensure that knowledge built during capture is successfully integrated into our bid submission.

Reporting to the Head of Capture, you will work with other Capture Leads and Strategic Growth Directors to contribute to the advancement of a best-in-industry team. Bringing challenge, creativity and exemplar experience to this developing skills area is essential. As a key member of our Capture team, you will promote capture excellence across WSP.

This is a mid-senior level appointment for our strategic bid function that requires energy, determination, discipline and demonstrable evidence of leading teams in a matrix environment.   • Lead capture planning and build winning teams for multidisciplinary and high value strategic bids

  • Work collaboratively with Prospect Directors, bid colleagues, operational managers, sector and commercial teams to develop a differentiating offer and compelling win themes

  • Develop client relationships, understand their needs and facilitate the development of winning solutions.

  • Ensure appropriate early governance and review processes are followed

  • Assist in prospect qualification and tender delivery

  • Provide challenge to operational, technical, commercial and financial leads to facilitate the development of operating models that respond to customer requirements and needs

  • Work with bid authors and solution architects to convert knowledge from operational and business development staff into winning solutions and proposals

  • Support lessons learnt from the capture phase. Analyse each prospect, including customer feedback, to identify and share good practice with operational, bid and business development staff across WSP and suggest improvements to process and team dynamics

  • Train and coach bid colleagues and technical leaders on the capture process and associated skills

  • Contribute to the overall development of the UK Strategic Growth team and its services

  • Collate market and competitor information that will be useful to WSP in the future

  • Preferably qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject

  • Relevant experience in a similar professional services environment

  • Creative and entrepreneurial, the successful candidate will demonstrate they can develop bespoke strategies, materials and plans to respond to specific opportunity requirements

  • Good experience of client engagement and solution development in the sectors in which WSP operates

  • Understanding of capture planning best practice

  • Good awareness and understanding of bid governance and review processes

  • Good bid writing and management skills and commercial skills

  • Appreciation of procurement methodologies advantageous

  • Excellent stakeholder management and client engagement skills

  • Thorough understanding of the procurement process and lifecycle

  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication, team player, collaborative

  • Robust project management skills with a meticulous approach to detail and quality

  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise

  • Proactive, taking initiative and responsibility for your own actions

  • Able to assimilate, understand, and simplify large volumes of information, and plan and manage associated workflows

  • Develops strong relationships and rapport with external clients and internal colleagues

  • Excellent people skills to lead, encourage, motivate and enthuse others

  • Capable of leading or facilitating workshops/meetings to optimise session outcomes

  • Confidence to delegate to all levels, where required.
