O'Neal Steel has an opening for a Maintenance Supervisor at our Birmingham, AL facility

The primary function of the Maintenance Supervisor is to oversee regular maintenance and initiatives while also directing and supervising the maintenance team at the district warehouse to ensure execution of regular maintenance as well as maintenance projects.

Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To:

  • Oversee all maintenance repairs to ensure accuracy and long-term results in a cost efficient manner.

  • Supervise and oversee the maintenance team in all areas including safety, performance, department procedures, payroll, training, work schedules, and job/task assignments.

  • Work with maintenance team members and OEM to solve complex electrical and mechanical problems including hydraulic, pneumatic and electronics.

  • Quote repairs and replacement parts for equipment by issuing purchase orders through approval system and tracking costs.

  • Determine appropriate levels of spare parts to be maintained and coordinate the inventory of these parts to control cost and downtime of the equipment; anticipateneeded equipment, parts, and supplies; place and expedite orders; verify receipt.

  • Assist and manage 5S of all equipment in the plant.

  • Monitor and promote preventative maintenance programs and schedules for all material handling and processing equipment as well as facility maintenance and other machinery.

  • Oversee the creation of JSA and work instructions for projects and repairs and ensure these are applied.

  • Work and coordinate parts sharing program with other ONS hub locations and spoke locations for all equipment and cranes.

  • Coordinate activities with Warehouse Supervisors, Production Managers and Operations Managers to determine most feasible times for repairs and general maintenance to be done.

  • Monitor, adjust, and stay within department operating budgets and meet established goals.

  • Able and willing to travel to other locations for projects and emergency response on a request basis and manage a team of technicians selected to accomplish such projects.

Required Skills, Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience required.

  • High level break-fix & preventative maintenance experience required.

  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power and control systems.

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and perform repairs.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs used in electrical and mechanical maintenance technician work assignments.

  • Basic Microsoft Office knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to use hand torch burning equipment, perform non-structural welding using shielded metal arc equipment, and operate various powered metal working equipment such as drills, lathes, punches, shears, saws, mills, presses etc.

  • Good math skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions; convert decimals to fractions and vice versa.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills; interpersonal skills, versatility, organization, and planning.

Desired Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Experience with advanced PLC, and/or robotics, and/or CNC repair.

  • A working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Ability to operate forklift and overhead crane utilizing pendant, radio, or cab controls.

  • Experience successfully leading a team in maintenance, manufacturing or a related field.

General Requirements: Must be able to concentrate, prioritize, and maintain productivity in high pressure situations; team player that is a highly disciplined, problem-solver with a strong work ethic; overnight travel required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
