Position Description

As a commercial representative of the largest natural gas Pipeline Company and 4th largest energy company in North America, the right candidate will represent the company’s ideals both internally and externally. This position will have primary responsibilities of analyzing potential commercial transactions, summarizing findings for senior management review and project approval, and revising project analytics through project execution. The successful candidate will also interact with senior management, participate in negotiations with external customers, and influence revenue decisions the company makes.

Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluate economics for projects, perform sensitivity studies, prepare management presentations, and present investment opportunities for approvals. This particular position will have the responsibility for modeling or checking the models for the projects in the South Region.

  • Perform market and competitor analysis.

  • Maintain and update project metrics during project execution.

  • As part of the Business Development Team, incumbent will develop and implement business development strategy.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and/or existing customers and other key industry representatives.

  • Conduct and participate with others in the negotiation of business transactions, and draft definitive agreements for approved projects.

  • Originate and manage the development of projects that will enhance the profitability of Kinder Morgan’s Natural Gas Pipeline Group, which may include major capital expansions, acquisitions and project development.

  • Identify prospects, lead negotiations, and prepare agreements with potential customers and/or counterparties.

  • Coordinate multi-discipline, cross- functional teams comprised of internal departments (including but not limited to Facilities Design, Engineering, Environmental, Land, Legal, Regulatory, Operations and Gas Control) to produce scopes of work, identify projects’ risks, and produce cost estimates.

    Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required); studies in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance

  • Five (5) + years of experience with specific experience in analyzing and developing new business investment opportunities with customers

  • Must be able to analyze all aspects of a natural gas business arrangement (technical, financial, contractual, legal, regulatory, operational and marketing)

  • Must have well developed oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills

  • Must have the ability to influence without authority by working with a wide variety of people, internally and externally, with tact, courtesy and professionalism while driving for positive results

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential

  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions

  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction

  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies

  • Willingness to travel, as needed

  • Significant experience and business contacts within the natural gas industry

  • Financial modeling experience desired

  • Ultimate job level will be determined based on the successful candidates’ skills, qualifications and experience
