Program Chief Engineer - Virtual Avionics Programs (Onsite)

What You Will Do:

As the Program Chief Engineer for Virtual Avionics Programs, you will serve as the primary technical interface to the customer and have primary accountability for meeting technical requirements, scope, engineering costs, and schedule commitments. You will define and maintain program plans, direct technical system-level trade studies, have design authority approval, and ensure adherence to processes by the engineering execution team. Additionally, you will liaise with value stream management and other leads to assure technical goals are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary customer technical interface for the virtual avionics programs.

  • Accountable for overall cost, schedule, risk management, and technical success including program metrics.

  • Ensure consistency among contributing organizations in executing engineering activities and manage program-level system integration between systems provided by different organizations.

  • Engage with other contributing project engineers to achieve successful contract compliance and customer satisfaction.

  • Accountable for complete and accurate decomposition of program requirements for virtual avionics systems.

  • Responsible for overall product verification, certification, and required artifacts for virtual avionics solutions.

  • Accountable for achieving the Design to Cost (DTC) goals for virtual avionics programs.

  • Support appropriate technical staffing and assignment for virtual avionics program teams.

  • Adhere to budget, schedule, and risk management processes for virtual avionics programs.

  • Analyze portfolio problems and develop recommendations to modify project plans to mitigate and resolve issues related to virtual avionics programs.

  • Engage and mentor VAE project engineers to achieve successful contract compliance, customer satisfaction, and consistency within the group across several projects.

  • Engage in VAP proposals and create and refine associated SEER models.

  • Support appropriate technical staffing and assignment for virtual avionics program teams.

  • Direct and select IR&D technology developments.

  • Create and maintain technical roadmaps for VAP.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Previous experience as a Systems Lead, Engineering Manager, or Project Engineer, preferably in the avionics or virtual systems domain.

  • Experience with project planning pursuits and execution in the avionics or virtual systems domain.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional networks.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Understanding and utilization of appropriate processes and tools during pursuit, order capture, and execution of large avionics or virtual systems programs.

  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated through interpersonal interaction, individual mentoring, and team development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a professional team environment.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, balance priorities, and adhere to schedules.

  • Self-motivated with strong analytical skills.

  • Experience in system-level test planning, configuration management, and test execution for avionics or virtual systems.

  • Proficiency with Atlassian Application Life Cycle tool suite (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).

  • Understanding and application of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
