Guthrie Hospice Chaplain - Hospice - Full Time in Binghamton, New York

Position Summary:

As a member of the interdisciplinary team is responsible to the Hospice Director for the provision of spiritual support to patients and families in keeping with the patient/family’s desire and belief system. Is responsible for implementing and coordinating all activities relating to the spiritual aspect of Guthrie Hospice (the spiritual component of the interdisciplinary team) consistent with agency policies and procedures.

Education, License & Cert:

Bachelors' Degree in Bible Ministry or related field of study preferred. Biblical prerequisites preferred.

Experience:

Experience working with families/patients dealing with life threatening illness and death. Ability to be open and ecumenical. Preferable experience working in Hospice Care or similar settings.

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintains up to date patient records so that problems, plans, actions and goals are accurately and clearly stated and changes are reflected as they occur.

  2. Meets the requirements for participation in patient/community/referral source education plan as stipulated by agency policy.

  3. Conduct or make arrangements for funeral or memorial services when indicated.

  4. Develop and maintain a resource group of clergy to whom specific aspects of spiritual care may be delegated.

  5. Make contact with clergy or appropriate representative of patients/families as indicated.

  6. Make referrals to the IDG or ethics committee as appropriate when ethical issues/dilemmas arise.

  7. Participate in interdisciplinary patient care conference by exploring and assessing the potential spiritual needs of patients/families and reporting on services as needed.

  8. Provide and/or arrange for spiritual support to patients/families and staff.

  9. Provide education to staff, clergy, and community groups regarding spiritual aspects of end‐of‐life issues and grief

pay range min $20.38/hr max $31.81/hr
