Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician (SL-3)

Salary: $55,151 + (dependent on experience)

Harpur College seeks a full-time Computer Systems Coordinator to join our team of technical support specialists. The Computer Systems Coordinator provides technical support and inventory management for the College of Arts and Sciences computer systems. The work involves providing technical advice and troubleshooting services for faculty and staff within the College, overseeing the implementation of shared virtual servers, organizing purchasing, configuring/upgrading systems, managing computer rotation for repurposed computers, and recycling older systems.

The position is user-facing and provides direct technology support to Harpur College faculty and staff. It supports a wide range of technical areas, such as (but not limited to) Device Support (both hardware and software), Accounts Management, and level-one Networking Support (wired and wireless).

In addition, the Harpur College Computer System Coordinator will:

  • Install and configure desktop and server hardware and software components.

  • Provide computer (hardware and software), network, and peripheral troubleshooting and support to the Harpur College community.

  • Maintain and upgrade systems to meet campus security needs and enable compatible computer interfaces.

  • Install and maintain databases to manage inventory, including MS Access programming, updating, generating reports, and backups.

  • Transfer data, map network drives, assist with faculty and staff email accounts and install new computers and applications.

  • Install and upgrade anti-virus software to ensure security at the user level.

  • Perform installation, configuration, and evaluation of all new software and hardware.

  • Support users and serve as the first point of contact for error reporting.

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with all departments and colleagues.

  • Oversee virtual and server-provided services for Harpur College users.

  • Interface with ITS technical staff to ensure computer security and operational practices consistency.

  • Develop connections with academic computing support to assist faculty with technical needs beyond desktops.

  • Manage technical documentation.

  • Provide flexible, patient, and creative solutions to issues as they arise.

  • Maintain fluency in new technologies that are used at Binghamton University.

  • Provide competent, timely, quality, and excellent customer service in all facets of work.

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)

  • Oversee distribution and maintain inventory database.

  • Manage computer rotation for repurposed computers.

  • Budget tracking for Harpur College Fabrication lab

  • Occasionally assist the Harpur Fabrication Lab with two person tasks.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with at least two years of customer support experience

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with technical and non-technical users

  • Experience supporting the following: Windows 10 and 11, macOS, iOS, Android, including installing/configuring apps and troubleshooting connectivity issues

  • Must be physically able to perform work that requires lifting (50 pounds), reaching, bending, kneeling, crawling, or climbing into small workspaces for extended periods

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, a willing attitude, persistent follow-through, and effectiveness in getting things done collaboratively

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Google suite expertise

  • Must maintain a high degree of personal integrity and standards of professional conduct

  • Must be a positive, hardworking person able to deal successfully with a diverse group of users, faculty, and staff

  • Evidence of working independently and with a clear project focus

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in a related field

  • Microsoft Access fluency

  • Experience working in higher education or a large research technology environment.

  • Experience working in a user-facing technical support position.

  • Two or more years' experience repairing Mac and/or PC laptops and desktops.

  • Experience troubleshooting and installing computer hardware.

  • Experience supporting smartphones and tablets, including installing/configuring apps and troubleshooting

  • Experience working with virtual services and servers.

  • Experience supporting instructional technology include tools for remote teaching/learning/support (Zoom, Google Meet, Panopto)

  • Apple/Dell/Microsoft/HDI Certifications strongly preferred.

  • Experience with desktop management products (SCCM, JAMF)

  • Ability and experience in a fast-paced environment with minimal to no direct

  • Demonstrated curiosity, interest, and ability to keep abreast of technology
