As part of the strategic plan for expanding biomedical and health science research in emerging fields, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Watson College, Binghamton University (BU), State University of New York (SUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Biomaterials at the Assistant Professor level with an expected start date as early as January 4, 2025.
BU is one of the top 40 national research universities. It's direct impact on the regional economy has reached $1.2 billion in recent years. The recent $113 million research award from the Economic Development Agency (EDA) further catalyzes and fosters knowledge transfer and partnerships across industries and academia to advance technology development and innovation in science and engineering and $160 million NSF ENGINE grant helps the university to build ecosystems for science discovery and technology advancement. The university attracts outstanding students and award-winning faculty including 2019 Nobel Laureate Dr. Stanley Whittingham who are partners in active discovery. We are seeking biomedical engineers who have demonstrated exceptional potential in scholarship, an ability to attract extramural research funding, and the capability to teach both undergraduate and graduate biomedical engineering courses. The Department has recently launched $1.6 million workforce training program partnered with the School of Management to develop a Biomanufacturing Project Management Certificate Program funded by BioMADE.
We seek applications from candidates in all areas of biomedical engineering; however, we are particularly interested in the following area: Biomaterials. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness are preferred.
The candidate will be expected to lead efforts to broaden the university's Road Map Initiative in the Transdisciplinary Area of Excellence in Health Science (https://binghamton.edu/tae/). The Department is particularly strong in advanced biomanufacturing, stem cells, tissue engineering/regenerative medicine, nanomedicine, cardiovascular engineering, biomaterials, organ-on-a-chip, wearable biosensors, neuroengineering, biomedical device, quantum biology, cancer immunotherapy, and biomechanics. The BME Department is the home of the Center of Biomanufacturing for Regenerative Medicine (CBRM). The Department has recently formed a joint Institute for Regenerative Medicine with the Upstate Medical University. The Department hosts cutting edge graduate and postdoctoral students working on research that is supported by industry, NIST Professional Research Experience Programs (PREP), NIH, DOD, and NSF funding mechanisms that span a wealth of research fields within biomedical research. We also house a 50% faculty success of NSF CAREER and Air Force Early Career Investigate award as well as NIH Merit Award winners. The candidate will be expected to develop a plan that synergizes our strategic partnership with the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Upstate Medical University, and CBRM. The Southern Tier has received a $500 million Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) award from New York State. The new hires will be expected to strategically contribute to this program. Job Requirements:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or a closely related field. Preferred qualifications include industry or national laboratory experience, as well as teaching experience.
