Budget Title: Assistant Dean (SL-5)

Salary: $75,093+ (dependent on experience)

Harpur College is seeking an Assistant Dean to contribute to our efforts to support faculty research activity. As a member of the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office, you will work with the Associate Dean for Research and Programs in developing grant proposals, coordinating team efforts, tracking funding opportunities, supporting team building, and aiding in executing strategic Harpur College research initiatives. Your leadership, grant writing expertise, project management background, writing skills, knowledge of funding opportunities, and active efforts in faculty development will be vital in growing Harpur College's research portfolio.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Associate Dean for Research and Programs in coordinating the growth of Harpur's research portfolio.

  • Facilitate research activity through project facilitation and management, assistance with proposal writing, knowledge of scientific and funding agencies, and support for the development and execution of research growth strategy.

  • Serve as a liaison between Harpur College and Binghamton University Division of Research including the Office of Sponsored Research Programs and the Office of Strategic Research Initiatives.

  • Develop and coordinate training and professional development for faculty in identifying funding opportunities, proposal writing, team building, and research program management.

  • Coordinate and manage large, complex, or multi-PI/multi-institutional grant submissions.

  • Support establishing and managing cross-Harpur research clusters for the development of large funding proposals.

  • Track and communicate changes in the federal budget, agency allocations, executive orders, and regulatory changes affecting R&D.

  • Assist in the review of Harpur faculty and staff of grant and contract proposals.

  • Facilitate team science initiatives and serve as project manager for collaborative proposal development.

  • Support in establishing and managing interdisciplinary research initiatives and in the development of large center-level funding proposals to federal and state governments, corporations, and foundations.

  • Support development and execution of data-driven research growth strategy, productivity growth, and research optimization initiatives by performing various analyses of research and research-related data

  • Support Harpur College research advocacy and proposal development activities via the compilation of white papers and research briefs.

  • Collaborate with offices within the Harpur College and University diversity programs to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups in Harpur's research and creative activity programs.

    Job Requirements:

  • PhD in social science, natural science, or a closely related field

  • Accomplishments in research and scholarship as an individual and leader/active member in interdisciplinary research collaborations.

  • Experience that demonstrates understanding and appreciation of technical research and scholarship broadly across the arts and sciences

  • Demonstrated record of administrative, project management, or related experience in a research development setting

  • Experience facilitating team science initiatives

  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills

  • Knowledge of a variety of funding sources (government, corporate, and private foundations)

  • Very strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to be an effective team player in a diverse environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to the diversity of students, faculty, and staff, and to advancing an inclusive diverse climate that stimulates excellence
