Job Description

#li-ml2

We are playing our part in building a sustainable future. We’re on a journey to make our products increasingly more sustainable and a key aspect is the materials that go into our products.

As Sustainable Materials Strategy Director you will put your outstanding strategic approach into play as you develop strategic recommendations on sustainable materials. You will coordinate input from a wide group of partners in- and outside the organization and fairly balance opposing views to bridge environmental ambition with commercial logic.

Core Responsibilities

To succeed in the role, you rely on excellent project management skills and a healthy understanding of the sustainable materials area, particularly resins. Words like life-cycle assessment, mass balance, advanced recycling, materials circularity, and feedstock positions must be part of your vocabulary.

You are organized and analytical in your approach and excel in translating technical and complex topics into well-structured and appealing materials for colleagues and senior leaders. You possess the ability to spot opportunities and obstacles at strategic level and can deliver robust guidance and recommendations to solve or harvest them with the best interest of the company and our planet in mind.

  • Develop strategic recommendations on sustainable materials, particularly resin, in close collaboration with critical stakeholders

  • Play a vital role in the LEGO Group’s enterprise risk management work on materials

  • Drive the development of internal standards and definitions as well as company positions to guide our work on sustainable materials

  • Work closely with sustainable materials experts in your own team (Sustainable Products & Packaging Strategy team) and beyond to remain up-to-speed on trends and developments in the market and regulatory environment (internally for example Procurement, Materials R&D, Sustainable Materials Implementation, Circular Business Models, Carbon Strategy, Public Affairs, Sustainability Communications and more. Externally for example thought leaders, industry and trade associations, NGOs, suppliers, businesses and start-ups, governments, communities, consumers, academia, environmental groups, and regulatory agencies).

Play your part in our team succeeding

You will be part of an ambitious team that enables us to deliver more sustainable and circular products and packaging through strategic direction setting and concrete mentorship and standards.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Extensive experience working with environmental sustainability and/or sustainable materials. Top tier management consulting preferred.

  • Educational background with master’s degree or equivalent experience in business, engineering, materials or sustainability subject as a minimum

  • Proficiency in Project Management including organisation and planning

  • Successful strategy development skills with proven forward-thinking in a global corporate context

  • Very strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and influence

  • Bravery to challenge combined with curiosity to explore, while working focused, analytically and data-driven to deliver the best solutions

  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity and translating complex – often technical- topics into comprehendible messaging

  • Excellent communications skills, both verbally and written
