SUMMARY

The External Reporting Manager of the Company is responsible for the integrity, preparation, accuracy, and filing of First Interstate BancSystem, Inc. and its subsidiaries financial reporting documents, including related SEC and regulatory filings. These functions include oversight and participation in various planning, drafting, and other activities that facilitate the efficient completion of those filings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead the planning, drafting, and preparation of the quarterly earnings and SEC filing process through a thorough understanding of the SEC Reporting process and timeline.
  • Support the preparation and review the Bank Regulatory Reports, including but not limited to the Call report, FR-Y8, FR-Y9C, FR-Y9LP, FR-Y6, and FR-Y10.
  • Manage key internal relationships and collaborate between External Reporting and the Company's business lines regarding the reporting process and information required by managing the flow of information and supporting documentation from various parts of the organization to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Preparing and/or analyzing quarterly analytical reviews to support Management's Discussion and Analysis. Execute all responsibilities in compliance with our SOX 404 internal control framework.
  • Maintaining an awareness of Company products, services, and the related regulatory environment to effectively manage and comply with all regulatory reporting requirements and disclosures.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding and assessing quarterly or significant transactions for accounting treatment and their impact for SEC disclosure purposes.
  • Support various aspects of the external integrated audit, including: (i) kick-off meetings; (ii) overseeing interim testing activities; (iii) completing various quarter-end tasks; (iv) managing audit requests; and (v) driving cost-saving efficiencies.
  • Provide support for special projects, hands-on ad hoc requests, strategic initiatives and merger/acquisition opportunities.
  • On-going review of accounting procedures, systems, and processes to ensure efficiency and implementation of best practices.
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
  • Keep abreast of industry changes and regulatory requirements and oversee and/or assist with examinations conducted by auditors and regulatory agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Finance or Accounting related field and 8+ years of experience in accounting, including Big 4 public accounting experience and SEC reporting experience with a large publicly-traded company. Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements. Certified Public Accountant. Experience in a management role required.

OTHER SKILLS

Able to organize and prioritize work load. Demonstrate skill in use of microcomputer, financial software and spreadsheets. Proficiency of utilizing Word and Excel. Possess required technical skills in area of accounting. Strive to improve efficiencies and quality.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and respond to common inquiries or complaints from bank customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Applies oral and written communication in a clear and concise manner. Uses effective communication skills in working with co-workers and internal customers. Influences others with clear explanations of facts and ideas.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Identify problems and develop solutions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
