The Laboratory Technical Coordinator serves as technical expert in assigned areas. Performs waived, moderate and highly complex laboratory tests. Assumes responsibility for teaching/training of new employees and students,

competency, problem-solving, quality control, and regulatory compliance. Performs supervisory duties and special assignments as delegated.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains technical expertise and competency in assigned area to perform patient testing as needed. Able to perform essential functions of MLS/MT.2. Collaborates with Laboratory Site Manager or Network Technical Specialist to maintain the Quality Management program developed for their assigned area. 3. Reviews the laboratory procedure manual biannually. Submits laboratory revisions to the Laboratory Site/Core Manager as necessary to be submitted for network review.4. In collaboration with the Laboratory Site Manager, assists or creates the staff schedule as assigned; organizes, prioritizes, and oversees daily workload. Initiates finding coverage for call offs. Maintains time-keeper role in Kronos. 5. Reviews compliance with the maintenance of equipment. Acts as a resource in troubleshooting technical and equipment operations. 6. Reviews quality control data, implements corrective action as necessary, appropriately documents action and informs Site Laboratory Manager or Network Technical Specialist.7. Reviews results, submits data, reviews evaluation summaries of Proficiency testing and investigates any unacceptable results in collaboration with Laboratory Site Manager or Network Technical Specialist.8. Reviews quality assurance reports. Initiates investigation and root cause analysis with proper documentation and follow-up. Notifies Laboratory Site Manager or Network Technical Specialist of such action. 9. Maintains inventory control; orders supplies; communicates to Laboratory Site Manager or Network Technical Specialist. 10. Performs laboratory tests according to established protocols and procedures. 11. Follows established policies regarding accurate documentation of laboratory results in the laboratory information system, instrument records, and other quality assurance data. 12. Supervises daily activities in the absence of supervisor. Other related duties as assigned. 13. Assists LIS Analysts in resolving computer problems.14. Assesses and documents technical competency for staff within their technical area of responsibility.15. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting up to 7 hours per day - 2-hour increments. Standing up to 5 hours per day - 2-hour increments. Walking - up to 7 hours per day - short increments. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate small vials, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratory equipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes/equipment up to 30 lbs. Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment. Frequent stooping, bending. Occasional crouching. Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth). Hearing as it relates to normal, high, and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color and peripheral vision. Depth perception.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution; and have at least 2 years of laboratory experience in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service for which the technical coordinator is responsible. ASCP eligible.NOTE: MLT (ASCP), HT (ASCP) or eligible. Under these circumstances the Laboratory Manager will be ultimately responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience in the assigned discipline preferred
