St. Luke's University Health Network Laboratory Admin Support (FT, Days) - Bethlehem, PA in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Accessioning of surgical pathology specimens in Anatomic Pathology information system. Review and reconciliation of gross and microscopic surgical reports and autopsy reports for department pathology assistants, and pathologists.

  • Uses the computer to accession surgical specimens, consult cases, and autopsies from all campuses and clients to include: verifying identification between specimens and requisitions, data entry of patient and specimen information, and accurate labeling of specimen containers.

  • Accurately transcribes all tissue and autopsy reports as dictated by pathologists.

  • Prepares slides for sendout from Anatomic Pathology including documentation in the computer.

  • Inputs quality management data in Anatomic Pathology information system.

  • Assists pathology staff with amendment of surgical reports and transcribing supplemental reports.

  • Retrieval of consult reports.

  • Return of outside consult cases including documentation in the computer.

  • Maintains file of specimen requisitions by surgical number.

  • Performs special projects as assigned.

  • PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting up to 7 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Standing up to 2 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Walking up to 1 hour per day in 10 minute increments. Fingering frequently to use computer keyboard and tear apart and sort patient reports. Frequent handing of papers. Lifting occasionally up to 10 pounds. Carrying occasionally up to 10 pounds. Occasional stooping/bending to load paper and retrieve reports from printer. Rarely reaches above shoulder level. Hearing normal conversation and dictation. Normal vision with ability to read computer terminal.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    (MINIMUM)

     

    EDUCATION: Medical Secretary or equivalent.

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: In depth knowledge of medical terminology- pathology terminology required. Medical transcription experience.

    SKILLS: Word Processing, accurate typing (minimum 50-60 words per minute).
