Loyola Medicine, treating the whole person with compassion—to "also treat the human spirit." The Cardiology Department seeks a Full-time EKG Tech I to perform non-invasive diagnostic cardiac testing.

In this role, the EKG Tech I will perform non-invasive, low complexity diagnostic cardiac testing on patients in a variety of age-specific populations. Responsible for the accurate and timely processing and distribution of confirmed ECG’s across the LUHS continuum.

Position Responsibilities

  • Displays competence and proficiency in performing basic cardiac diagnostic procedures (Routine ECG with Rhythm Strip, Signal Averaged ECG, Cardiac Event Monitoring and 24 Hour Holter Monitoring). Instructs patients about procedures, provides them with printed instructional materials regarding their test and answers basic questions. Performs adequate skin preparation reflected by artifact-free, interpretable tracings. Demonstrates an understanding of basic dysrhythmias by communicating Critical Results and other abnormal findings to physicians as soon as they are identified. Responds to requests for “STAT” procedures within appropriate time frame (5 minutes). Demonstrates an understanding of basic ECG equipment operation by troubleshooting problems and initiating service calls when indicated.

  • Performs related clerical and other functions within the department. Transmits ECG tracings per department protocol. Demonstrates accuracy and timeliness in ECG correlating, editing and proofreading. Demonstrates the ability to access the hospital billing system and enters charges in a timely manner to capture revenue. Demonstrates the ability to retrieve any report from the GE MUSESystem or EPIC System. Monitors decentralized ECG performance via quality inspection rounds and the Cardiographics Quality checklist to assure standards of care. Utilizes supplies judiciously, restocking only when necessary, to control inventory efficiently and economically.

  • Maintains a safe, clean patient care and work environment to meet LUHS, IDPH and JCAHO standards. a. Sanitizes equipment, exam rooms and other work areas, making arrangements with housekeeping for heavy cleaning as needed. b. Provides for proper disposition of soiled linen and trash to promote a clean, clutter-free environment. c. Reports maintenance issues to proper authorities to ensure patient and employee safety.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Cardiographics Lab Team to guarantee effective and efficient operations. Attends and participates in department meetings, presenting ideas for consideration and acknowledging in a positive way, the input of others. Communicates and collaborates with peers regarding the daily department schedule to promote effective and efficient service. Completes assignments and tasks in a timely manner. Anticipates the needs of others and assists them without being asked. Volunteers for additional assignments or projects. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities to guarantee quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree

  • 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Required:

  • Required: EKG certification or EKG class completed

  • Basic Life Support (CPR)

Preferred:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardio Life Support Certified)
