Talen Energy Computer Systems Analyst in Berwick, Pennsylvania

The incumbent is accountable for maintenance / enhancement of existing computer-based systems supporting one or more areas or technologies. The purpose of this job is to perform, with minimal supervision, a variety of tasks associated with the implementation, evaluation, installation, testing, modification and maintenance of digital computer systems at Susquehanna, including associated computer networks. The incumbent works as an individual contributor with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision. This support could be on a 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week basis. This position can provide technical guidance as well as implement, or coordinate the design, specifications, evaluation, installation, testing, modification and maintenance of digital computer systems. Incumbents have a broad technical expertise in an area of computer systems, produce high quality timely and cost effective solutions, and is a subject matter expert.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Work in a variety of capacities on tasks related to the Process Computer, Cyber Security and plant digital systems. Adhere to Computer System Engineering work processes, procedures, Software Quality Assurance, Security Systems, and Cyber Security programs.

  2. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance functions.

  3. Performs hardware and software physical installation, testing, documentation, and maintenance activities.

  4. Accountable for providing functionality and for assuring reliability and availability of computer based applications, requiring difficult problem solving with little or no assistance and supervision within limited time constraints. This may require 24x7 availability on critical systems. Maintains ownership and accountability for the “health” of supported systems. Serves as the main point of contact.

  5. Performs computer system troubleshooting, assessments, reviews, investigations and studies.

  6. Participates and provides technical assistance on Modification/Project and Process Improvement teams.

  7. Maintains cognizance of industry events and their applicability to the plant along with initiating appropriate actions.

  8. Routinely interfaces with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Security, Training, and other groups as necessary for a high level of teamwork and customer satisfaction.

  9. Effectively manages work assignments including prioritizing, scheduling and estimating resource requirements.

  10. Develops procedures, guidelines, and tools to support computer engineering and maintenance activities.

  11. Develops, installs and tests the computer hardware and software programs defined by specifications. Ensuring that system development and control is accomplished in accordance with the provisions of the SSES software QA program.

  12. Performs wide range of project management activities (plan, analyze, develop, integrate, test, implement) needed to achieve solutions to difficult problems, including contributing to cost/benefit analysis to support decisions regarding the feasibility of alternative solutions. Plans, conducts and supervises assignments. Works alone or as part of a project team, and acts as a team leader.

  13. Ability to work in a team environment and build and maintain highly effective partnerships with customers, understanding their needs. Participate in and facilitate team activities; coordinate, motivate others to achieve results.

  14. Committed to continuous learning and strives to increase relative skills and knowledge required for position. Keeps abreast of the latest developments in information technology and computer software. Is committed to continuous improvement of the development and support services being delivered to business lines.

  15. Applies broad principles to provide technical and cost-effective recommendations that resolve difficult assignments.

  16. Provides technical guidance and business process expertise and relationships on special projects or system issues to other staff.

  17. Understand and practice company safety and industrial hygiene policies. Incumbents must be aware of safety rules and environmental hazards and take appropriate action to ensure safety to personnel, the public and the environment.

  18. Actively involved in Plant and Engineering Work Management Processes. Adheres to the Engineering Work Management responsibilities as a team leader/individual contributor. Serves as an Engineering Point of Contact or Duty System Engineer in the Plant Work Management Process

  19. Continually expand and improve technical and business skill sets.

Basic Qualifications for Entry Level position:

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering/ Technology or Sciences or equivalent.

  • Performs preventive and computer corrective maintenance functions.

  • Performs hardware and software physical installation.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical and organizational skills.

  • Effective analyses, problem solving, decision making, planning skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Successful completion of a Nuclear Security Clearance is required.

  • Less than two years of related engineering experience.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Level position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, or other related engineering discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years related engineering experience.

Preferred

  • Ability to understand and develop computer requirements, writes documentation, and develops and performs computer tests.

  • In-depth knowledge of computer systems hardware, software, network technology, operating systems and I/O technology.

  • Understanding and ability to work with

  • Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMware

  • Active Directory

  • Relational Database, MS SQL, ACCESS

  • Networking fundamentals
