Senior Site Specialist – Laboratory technician

Job Summary:

In our laboratories in Bern, we work directly with our customer, a well-known pharmaceutical company. Our tasks include the provision of Standard and custom buffer, media and solution preparation (simple or complex) to support our client in the development of innovative products.

As a Laboratory Technician you will be responsible for:

  • ensure, sufficient amount of chemicals (solid, liquid) in required quality and within shelf-life are available (customer and/or Thermofisher inventory management system) to prepare standard buffers and solutions.

  • ensure, chemicals are stored according to saftey requirements until use.

  • measure/weigh chemicals, dissolve chemicals in aqueous or organic solvents; adjust volume, pH, conductivity, other parameters (if required).

  • perform simple analytical tests to confirm suitability for use (if required); dispose according to requirements, if batch is deemed not suitable.

  • filter buffers and solutions into suitable final containers (if required).

  • aliquot buffers and solutions into several final containers (if required).

  • ensure suitable and sufficient containers are available (autoclaved, depyrogenated, if required).

  • take retain-samples before/after filtration (if required).

  • label vessels, final containers and retain samples according to GSP/GxP, safety (and further) requirements.

  • register prepared buffers and solution (and retain samples) in ELN-IM (if required).

  • autoclave buffer or solutions in final containers (if required).

  • document buffer and solution preparation according to requirements, e.g. in ELN-IM.

  • maintain a central database on buffers and solutions prepared (relevant for cost allocation).

  • store filled final containers and retain samples according to requirements until use.

  • ensure minimum stock of standard buffers and solutions is always available at defined point of uses (centrally and decentrally), also by delivering them.

  • range of volumes for buffers and solutions: 10 mL to 20 L

  • types of vessels, final containers typically to be handled: laboratory glass containers, single-use bags, bagtainer, plastic flasks, HPLC glass container

  • Simple Equipment Calibration

  • Sample logistics: Handle/aliquot samples based on information provided by customer

  • Perform stockroom duties to include receiving, put-away, stock rotation, cycle counts, systematic replenishments, and other functions according to customer requirements.

  • Perform customer service activities which may include order entry, expediting, customer service call resolution, return goods authorization, processing of backorders, vendor and customer interaction, problem resolution, executing 3rd party & agent buys.

  • Support in improving our supply chain processes.

  • Engage in customer meetings & build relationships with your internal stakeholders.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Keys to success:

  • Federal certificate of competence (CFC) for laboratory technicians & title of biomedical analysis technician ES (or comparable training)

  • Experience:

  • Preferably 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory facility or service, or laboratory experience, especially in chemistry/biology

  • Experience in laboratory setting or services is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven customer service skills and ability to handle a wide range of various duties – physical work and administrative tasks.

  • Requires the ability to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 pounds, including operation and use of pushcarts, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

  • May be required to work independently at a customer location.

  • High level of commitment and willingness to learn

  • Excellent knowledge of German and good knowledge of English

  • Careful and detail-orientated work

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Basic computer skills (MS Excel).
