BERLIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Night Custodian in BERLIN, New Hampshire

JOB TITLE: BHS - Nights - Building B

2:30 - 10:30 p.m. (20 minute lunch)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of school buildings in support of the education, extra and co-curricular programs of the school district.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Buildings and Grounds Director.

EQUIPMENT USED: Hand and small power tools; hand and power cleaning equipment; test meters and gauges; alarm system; HVAC equipment; telephone.

ENVIRONMENT: Inside: 90% Outside: 10%

DAILY:

2:30 p.m. Check in with Building Principal

  • Clean caf, secure doors and with person holding position A (place tables and chairs)
  • Lock up shop hall and turn off lights (Check bathrooms in shop and hallways)
  • Dry mop home economics room
  • Clean restrooms in home economics room
  • Pick up all trash and recycling on top floor
  • Clean water fountains on top floor
  • Dry mop halls on top floor and landing near elevator on top floor
  • Clean boys' and girls' locker rooms in the gym and secure doors and turn off lights
  • Secure top floor
  • Secure door in stairwell near print shop
  • Dry mop art room (Tuesday and Thursday) with person holding position A
  • Clean all classrooms on top floor plus rooms 505,506,507, 508, 510 through 517 on the main floor
  • Be available for deliveries after 2:30 p.m.
  • Perform maintenance as required
  • Be available to cover and assist at evening functions

MONDAY-WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY:

  • Clean science department office
  • Clean business department office
  • Clean social studies office
  • Clean foreign language department office
  • Clean home economics department office
  • Clean math department office

TUESDAY-THURSDAY:

  • Clean drafting room
  • Clean art room with fellow custodian
  • Friday clean music room

WEEKLY:

  • Dust all surface areas
  • Boys' and girls' locker shower stalls (wash and disinfect)
  • Clean chalk trays in assigned classrooms
  • Touch up paint program as needed

SEASONAL: Filters for heating units are to be changed with the night custodian per the operations manager or foreman's request.

SUMMER MONTHS;

  • Cut grass as needed

WINTER MONTHS:

  • Shovel snow and treat walkways as needed

**ALL CUSTODIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GRAFFITI ON WALLS, BATHROOM, ETC AND IS TO BE CLEANED DAILY AS PART OF YOUR WORK SCHEDULE.

RECYCLING DAILY** Custodians (both day and evening) in all buildings everyday are responsible for placing all recyclables in their proper location for pick up.

  • Cardboard to be knocked down and all tape removed
  • White Paper in Bags
  • North Shore/all other Paper in Bags
  • Cans also in bags and ready for pick up (or put in bins)
  • Day custodians in buildings with cafes are responsible for picking up recyclables from each kitchen's caf.

**NOTE: RECYCLABLES IN HALLWAYS/CLASSROOMS DAILY

Report all heating and ventilation problems to the Buildings and Grounds Director. Do not change or alter any programs on the DDC and heating unit. If the Buildings and Grounds Director is unavailable, contact central office. In case of emergency, call 1-800-526-7878 for service. Service Technician is Dan Lowe

COGNITIVE AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Asbestos Awareness Certificate, preferred.

OTHER TRAINING, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: HS diploma or GED, preferred. One year of custodial and maintenance experience. Familiarity with and ability to effectively use hand and power equipment and tools. Experience with maintaining electrical, plumbing and HVAC equipment in industrial/commercial buildings also experience in building construction/carpentry and/or licensure in plumbing.. Ability to work in environments with different needs, and understand and follow orders. Or, any combination of education and experience that demonstrates a knowledge of the tasks and functions of the job. A commercial driver's license, CDL-B minimum is a preferred qualification.

SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:

Floor and bathroom cleaners, cleaning agents and solvents, heating fuels. Incumbents may be exposed to extremes of heat, cold, and wet weather.

May be exposed to bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, feces, and vomit.
