Position Title – Sr. Manager of Regional Code Strategy & Compliance

Location: Germany

Role Overview :

The EMEA regional code Sr. Manager is responsible for implementing Otis worldwide and regional code specific strategies with focus on CE/Germany in EMEA. In his role, he actively supports the harmonisation of ISO / EN suite of codes across EMEA and Globally, ensuring that these harmonised codes compliment and support the Otis range of products.

Develop good communication channels and a strong professional relationship with global and national certification, inspection and notified bodies, governmental bodies, elevator code committees, trade associations and elevator industry members.

On a typical day you will:

  • Implementation of Otis global Product Management code strategy into the Otis EMEA with focus on CE and German organization.

  • Ensure that new codes or revisions of existing codes compliment Otis products, innovations, and business strategy.

  • Promote and support harmonisation of international codes ISO and EN in EMEA countries and regional associations

  • Strict compliance with Otis "Absolutes"

  • Promote the inclusion of Otis Safety Standard items into National and Global Codes

  • Ensure that Otis field and service strategy is considered in CE/German National regulations

  • Sharing EMEA information and updates of working content for further information flow to their appropriate entities engineering, sales/marketing. quality and operation/field organization

  • Participation in local Association and Standard committees in your country of residence

  • Inform EMEA Code leader on code compliant design, safety and obtaining certification from Notified bodies in CE/Germany

  • Assist Code correspondents and engineering divisions with certification of "new technology" Otis products which are not compliant with prescriptive codes, requiring approval and certification from Notified Bodies

  • Assist National Bodies with the formulation of codes and technical standards

  • Advise appropriate engineering centers when new codes and standards are implemented or of code changes that impact on product supplied into EMEA countries.

  • Represent Otis on projects where the consultant /client has code interpretation or questions on the compliance or Otis product to tenders or customer requirements in terms of codes.

  • Represent and / or support regional code correspondents in code/ product safety related topics with local regulators, test bodies and code authorities

  • Provide information and updates of working content from regional and global code committees to the CE/Germany Leaders/Top Management.

What You Will Need to be Successful :

  • Sound engineering practices and good knowledge elevator and escalator systems

  • Experience in the elevator and Escalator Industry or on Notified Body organisation

  • Knowledge of ISO/EN elevator and escalator codes, standards, and legislation

  • Capable of lobbying and influencing code committees at a global and national level

  • Experience in Quality/Manufacturing process and capable to support/define certifications scheme with external audits.

  • Experience with type tests, certification and working notified bodies and test centers

  • Some knowledge of the Lift and machinery directives and in particular the GESR's for design and system certification

  • Strategic knowledge of the CE and also German market and Otis products

  • Knowledge of, and compliance to the Otis Absolutes

  • Fluent in English

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to assert and explain a strategic position and persuade others to agree with it

  • Ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders over time creating “win-win” situations for all involved

  • Ability to apply different approaches to obtain the same results in different countries and legislations

  • Strategic and tactical thinking, with a creative and an open mind

  • Previous experience and participation in ISO and national/global elevator association committees

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
