GE Vernova HVDC Senior Project Control Manager in Berlin, Germany

Job Description Summary

For a HVDC project we are looking for a Senior Project Control manager who will be supporting the HVDC Project Director and the project lead team to execute the project as per the elaborated strategy and maintain project on time and within the budget. HVDC Senior project Control Role includes transversal management of Schedule and Cost Control functions that will be working on the project. Acting as a People Leader, this position will lead the Project Control Team in the HVDC project, being able to identify, attract and hire the necessary Project Control resources for the project and ensure that his/her team have the appropriate competences and development.

This position formulates and execute a strategy to optimize the project Schedule and Cost management, focusing on improving project delivery and project cost.

She/he will be the main point of contact in the project for all matters related to Project Control Function, both Schedule and Cost Control with proactively interfacing with Customer, Consortium partner, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

The position will be a member of the South Europe Project Control team, reporting directly to the Regional Project control Leader and reports in the project team to the HVDC Project Director.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Build integrated schedules during Tendering stage.

  • Ensure the right rigor around schedule and cost management processes to deliver projects on-time and within budget. With focus around tools, processes, operating rhythm, and people.

  • Lead the Project Controls team in the project, including both Schedule and Cost Control functions. Overall supervision of Project Control team within the project.

  • Analyze the contract to understand the scope and manage Project Control requirements.

  • Review project schedule and cost analytics to ensure we are accurately reporting the status and risks in the project.

  • Guide the team with the appropriate forensic analysis techniques to conduct delay analysis.

  • Ensure reporting is fully aligned to the Global standards and is provided on timely basis with frequency required to successfully manage project.

  • Lead Project Control function through a proactively interfacing with Customer, Consortium partner, subcontractors and internal partners.

  • Consolidate, report and improve the project Key Performance Indicators, monthly review, set actions and follow up.

  • Provide guideline to project Control processes to keep high standards in project execution, efficiency, on time delivery and financial goals as per Project Management Handbook guidelines, business standards, and new instructions / processes implemented time to time.

  • Responsible and Accountable for monitoring progress and producing accurate projections.

  • Responsible and Accountable for driving/supporting risk mitigation actions.

  • Manage workload of the project to ensure there is requisite resources and skills available to meet project needs.

  • Full understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Excellent understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills. Communication with direct colleagues, the business and Customers about design and coordination services rendered. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE project team. Explains technical information to others.

  • Ensure compliance to Global Standards and proper processes for planning and cost control in the company are followed.

  • Ensure claims management and successful project closeout.

  • Ensures other functions have access to accurate current reports and projections and relevant reports are available for the customer.

  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development.

  • Ensure their own team is trained and developed to support project.

  • Ensure the team has the right level of know-how and competency to perform their responsibilities through coaching and development.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has good knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.

  • Uses technical experience and analytical thinking.

  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.

  • Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor´s Engineer Degree with Planning and financial training

  • Minimum of 10 years planning HVDC and/or large turnkey projects

  • Minimum of 5 projects providing cost controlling on HVDC and/or large turnkey projects

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% - International and Domestic

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience as a lead planner on a minimum of 5 turnkey projects

  • Deep domain knowledge of planning and use of Primavera

  • Strategist in Forensic Analysis

  • Expert in Cost estimating and forecasting.

  • Skilled in Project Accounting & Controlling

  • Data handling skills (Excel, SAP…)

  • Commercial awareness

  • Communication (English language a must)

  • Proactive attitude

  • Problem Solving / Critical Thinking
