DATTCO Inc Payroll Specialist in Berlin, Connecticut
DATTCO currently has a full-time Payroll Specialist opening in Berlin, CT. This position is 100% on-site and remote work is not an option. We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical payroll professional that is an expert in the use of payroll systems. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll data, maintaining payroll records, and resolving any payroll-related issues. Your strong attention to detail and knowledge of payroll regulations will be key to success in this role.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Process payroll for employees accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with all relevant payroll laws and regulations
- Analyze and verify payroll data for accuracy, including salaries, hours worked, and deductions
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or errors in payroll calculations
- Prepare and distribute pay statements, reports, and tax filings
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of employee absenteeism, tardiness, and leave balances
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as HR and Finance, to ensure smooth payroll processing and resolve any payroll-related issues
- Stay up-to-date with payroll regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and make recommendations for process improvements
- Provide timely and accurate responses to employees' payroll-related inquiries
- Assist with payroll audits and support internal and external audits, as necessary
- New hire onboarding
- Terminations, unemployment inquiries
- Processing garnishments, levies and verifications of employment (VOE)
- Reconciliation of 401k and Union benefits
Minimum Requirements:
- Expert knowledge of payroll systems. Understanding of configuration and maintenance allowing for improved efficiency through automation.
- Degree in accounting or related field or commensurate experience
- 5+ years payroll processing experience
- In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, including tax laws, wage and hour laws, and labor regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts to employees
- Knowledge of payroll, garnishments and benefits distribution
