Special Working Conditions/Preferences: Position is located at the Arkansas Health Center in Benton, AR. May be required to work flexible hours, ventilator/trach experience, good communication skills, strong assessment skills. Must be certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a respiratory therapist.

Summary

The Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician is responsible for administering respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Sets up, operates, and monitors devices, such as respirators, postural drainage equipment, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to provide therapy to patients. Sets up and monitors continuous ventilators by setting initial controls, adjusting controls as necessary, monitoring appropriate parameters, and revising patient breathing circuit. Auscultators patients' chests to determine area to be treated, assembles appropriate equipment and medication for therapy, and collects sputum for examination and analysis. Maintains patient charts documenting pertinent identification and therapy information. Presents in-service training on current respiratory techniques and practices and demonstrates respirator care procedures. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper operating condition. Inventories and orders supplies. Consults with physician for instruction in patient diagnosis and prescribed therapy. Travels to medical facilities within the state to evaluate patients referred to state facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of respiratory therapy methods and techniques. Knowledge of the operation of respiratory therapy equipment. Ability to operate respiratory therapy equipment. Ability to assess patient therapy needs and treatment. Ability to evaluate problems and initiate therapy. Ability to instruct others in respiratory care. Ability to maintain patient charts and records. Ability to interpret and apply physician instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a respiratory therapy technician in accordance with ACA 17-99-301. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
