Database Test and Tools Development team is looking for bright and talented engineers from top tier institutes to apply their ingenuity to test functionality of Oracle’s filesystem for the Exadata Cloud.

The opening is a position for test development of Oracle ACFS (https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/rac/acfs.html) on Oracle Exadata Cloud Services (https://www.oracle.com/docs/tech/database/exadataservice-ds.pdf) and Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer (https://www.oracle.com/engineered-systems/exadata/cloud-at-customer/) , in the Database Test and Tools development team.

• Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service delivers the world’s most advanced database cloud by combining the world’s #1 database technology and Exadata, the most powerful database platform, with the simplicity, agility, and elasticity of a cloud-based deployment.

• Exadata Cloud@Customer brings the cloud automation and consumption pricing of Exadata Database Service and the fully managed Autonomous Database in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to an organization’s data centers.

• Oracle Advanced Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS) is an industry standard multi-platform scalable cloud file system with clusterwide data sharing. Oracle ACFS complements the Oracle Cloud Database and supports Encryption, Snapshots, Multi-relationship replication, Tagging, Freezing, Thawing and many other features.

• In Exadata, the Oracle Cloud Database can also be configured on top of ACFS (https://blogs.oracle.com/exadata/post/asm-cluster-file-system-snapshots-on-exadata) , whereby some of the latter’s powerful functionalities like snapshots can be leveraged.

Responsibilities

The job:

It is critical to ensure faultless provisioning and functioning of ACFS on Exadata Cloud Services and Exadata Cloud at Customer for smooth customer onboarding and experience. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your skills as a Test Development Engineer by developing rigorous, well-crafted tests for Oracle ACFS on the Exadata Cloud.

We need to develop tools/frameworks and test applications/scripts for automation of all the tests needed for the kernel-intensive filesystem that is Oracle ACFS. We often would need to simulate functionality in a regular Linux machine to run functional tests. This is a programming position as all the tests/frameworks are applications which should exercise ACFS functionality on the Oracle Exadata Cloud.

These test programs run fully automated on a server farm - so our test framework needs to configure ACFS in the simulated Exadata Cloud environment, run test applications/inject failures, and verify results by itself. Most of the features would need very specific test programs/frameworks.

The opening is for an individual contributor position in Database test and tools development team. In this position, you will be working very closely with the feature development team to create a test plan/tools/infrastructure needed for the filesystem.

You will also be reviewing the feature specifications (Functional & Design spec) before it is finalized as your inputs from a customer perspective might be important in the implementation. Our primary development platform is Linux, and depending on the area you work on, the coding would involve Python, Perl, Shell-scripting or C or Java to develop test programs. The challenge and the advantage is in understanding the technology and applying it in a practical setup.

'Database test & tools development' group (part of the database server group of Server Technologies Division) works on the upcoming releases of Oracle Database server, Database cloud services & Engineered systems enveloping a wide range of technologies.
