GE Vernova Senior Staff Software Engineer in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

You will be part of the core team at GE Vernova Electrification Software (GEV ESW) Business that is using software to enable de-carbonized future of energy for the planet by designing, building, delivering, and maintaining software applications & services for next generation Grid Software that is used by 40% of the world’s power utilities today. GEV ESW has recently launched a new software called GridOS which a software portfolio that helps utilities manage and orchestrate the sustainable energy grid. As a Sr Staff Engineer for Market Management Systems (MMS), you will contribute to designing highly complex modules, critical components, or a whole application/product in its entirety. You will work across scrum teams to integrate modules and products and focus on on-time and high-quality delivery. This position works independently and is seen as a technical leader in the organization. The position is responsible for driving the design and development efforts related to architecture, scalability, availability and performance in alignment with the product/application roadmap for MMS which is integrated solution suite for managing transmission-level grid reliability and hosting bulk-power energy markets.

Job Description

In this role, you will:

  • You will contribute to delivery of next generation grid software by shaping activities to drive delivery on existing and new products in MMS and build roadmaps to enable convergence to GridOS.

  • Be responsible for providing technical leadership and defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development methodologies and infrastructure

  • Provide guidance to developers with either planning and execution and/or design architecture using agile methodologies such as SCRUM

  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision

  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

  • Capture system level requirements by brainstorming with CTO, Sr. Architects, Data Scientists, Businesses & Product Managers

  • Leads impact assessment and decision related to technology choices, design /architectural considerations and implementation strategy.

  • Subject matter expert in processes and methodologies with ability to adapt and improvise in various situations in area of optimization and MMS. Expert in navigating through ambiguity and prioritizing conflicting asks.

  • Expert level skills in design, architecture, and development, with an ability to take a deep dive in the implementation aspects if the situation demands.

  • Leads the architecture and design efforts across the product / multiple product versions and is an expert in architecting custom solutions off the base product.

  • Expert in core data structures as well as algorithms and has the ability to implement them using language of choice when necessary – as a value offering.

Technical Expertise:

  • Facilitates and coaches software engineering team sessions on requirements estimation and alternative approaches to team sizing and estimation. Leads a community of practice around estimation to share best practices among teams

  • Knowledgeable about developments in UX in various contexts, businesses, and industries. Quantifies effectiveness of design choices by gathering data. Drives accountability and adoption. Publishes guidance and documentation to promote adoption of design. Proposes design solutions based on research and synthesis; creates general design principles that capture the vision and critical concerns for a program.

  • Demonstrates mastery of the intricacies of interactions and dynamics in Agile teams.

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of Lean principles.

  • Guides new teams to adopt Agile, troubleshoots adoption efforts, and guide continuous improvement.

  • Provides training on Lean / Agile. Drives elimination of inefficiencies in coding process.

  • Actively embraces new methods and practices that increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) + with minimum 12 years of experience.

  • Strong background in handling large complex software products with Java and C++ as base.

  • Experience in driving agile development practices of large teams. Proven track record of having delivered large scale enterprise software projects.

  • Must be willing to travel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Market Management systems for energy markets is strong plus.

  • Experience in power systems and power system applications is a strong plus.

  • Working on data systems across multiple operating systems/cloud environments is considered strong plus.

  • Advanced degrees such as MS specially in energy markets, power systems or optimization technologies is a strong plus.
