Job Description Summary
GE Vernova Advanced Research has one opening for a Research Engineer role in Non-destructive Technologies.
The focus of the role is to develop key cutting-edge NDE technologies for Industrial Inspections for all of GE Vernova’s products through the full product life cycle, including manufacturing, field services and repair.
Job Description
The focus of the role is to develop key cutting-edge NDE technologies for Industrial Inspections for all of GE Vernova’s products through the full product life cycle, including manufacturing, field services and repair. Key functions include
Design of inspection probes/sensors, physics-based modeling, inspection planning, experimental validation, field experimentation and inspection optimization.
Development of inspection techniques for various applications from raw materials to manufactured components to in-service part inspection.
Integration of inspection data processing algorithms and software including system capability analysis (probability of detection), signal/data analytics, imaging, data fusion and workflow algorithms.
Development of new NDE technologies for health monitoring, damage detection and material characterization.
Network and collaborate with both GE Vernova product engineers and with GE Global Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projects
Deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and assure proper documentation of the same
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar product knowledge, technology areas
Reach out and connect regularly with business stakeholders to understand the inspection needs and scope and execute programs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to go to field and manufacturing locations as needed for prototyping and validation tests of sensors developed.
Qualifications/Requirements
PhD degree in Physics/ Mechanical /Aerospace / Electrical / Electronics & Communication / Instrumentation Engineering with 1-2 years of post Ph.D experience in NDE or Masters degree in Sciences/Engineering (in the disciplines mentioned above) with 6 plus years of Post Masters experience in NDE
Fundamental knowledge of application of sensors and sensor data analysis.
Fundamental knowledge of NDE concepts and techniques, with hands-on and deep domain expertise in eddy current, ultrasound, microwave and other inspection modalities.
Exposure to physics-based modeling for eddy current probe design
Hands-on experience with ability to set up and run experiments. Basic background on hardware and instrumentation is essential.
Demonstrated ability to formulate, plan and conduct research projects with specific objectives and milestones with financial constraints.
Demonstrated ability to work in team-oriented research environment.
Demonstrated ability of idea generation
Solid understanding of material degradation/failure mechanisms under various conditions and detection of the same through relevant NDE techniques.
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality and field issues for turbomachinery and wind turbine components
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
Leading research work with cross-technology teams
Desired Characteristics
Solid understanding of gas turbine, steam turbine, wind turbine components and the operating conditions
Solid knowledge of typical manufacturing processes of turbomachinery and wind turbine components
Strong interface and collaboration with Industry and Academia
Strong track record of IP generation: Patents and Publications
