Position Summary

As part of BD’s Medication Delivery Solutions’ Materials Engineering Group, the Lead Design Engineer will be responsible to apply tools in computational materials science (Molecular Dynamics / Monte Carlo). The candidate should have expert knowledge in polymers and materials science, possess a deep understanding of the linkage between molecular architecture and structure, and be able to apply computational tools to drive insight in formulation development, drug delivery, and prediction of materials properties. The incumbent is expected to leverage both an internal and external global ecosystem of laboratory capabilities to validate the models and leverage existing large-scale computational technologies to advance our predictive capabilities. He/she is expected to have sufficient business acumen to speak with business internal stakeholders. The candidate should be capable to take on Project Leadership by conceiving, planning, and leading key computational materials activities. He/she will be part of an international, geographically dispersed team.

Educational Background

PhD Degree in Computational Materials Science/Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.

Professional Experience

Minimum of 4 years’ experience driving computational materials effort to enable rapid formulation development

Solid understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory and quality requirements, high-volume manufacturing practices.

Experience of coordinating cross-functional teams. Ability to work in a highly matrixed organization.

Deep technical curiosity, courage, and commitment to advancing bold and ambitious ideas that provide better options for patients and caregivers

Ability to drive well-informed, fact-based decision making to drive projects and deliver timely results

Job Responsibilities

The candidate should have expert knowledge in polymers and materials science, possess a deep understanding of the linkage between molecular architecture and structure, and be able to apply computational tools to drive insight in formulation development, drug delivery, and prediction of materials properties. Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience with Molecular Dynamics or Monte Carlo methods for polymeric materials development applications.

  • Experience with 21 CFR Part 11 Software System Validations a plus

  • Expertise in developing code in standard programming languages Python, C++, etc.

  • Familiar with and the ability to manage Linux based systems

  • Familiar with validation processes of simulation code

  • Self-starting and able to build from the ground-up

  • Technical depth in polymer & material science

  • Excellent problem-solver, critical-thinker, and decision-maker

  • General project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor associates

  • Excellent technical reader and writer

  • Proficient with MS-Excel, Word, Power Point

  • Hard working, willing to work with support team member

  • Strong English-language grammar, editing, proofreading skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to create technical reports
